Sektori
Sektori – out now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC

If you’ve been missing the glory days of high-octane arcade action, a new challenger has just entered the arena to assault your senses in the best possible way.

Sektori, a hyperkinetic twin-stick shooter that promises to transport you into another state of consciousness, has launched.

This intense new title is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC for £12.49.

This isn’t just another neon shooter; it’s a passion project from Kimmo Lahtinen, a developer with serious pedigree who spent 13 years at Housemarque working on legendary titles like Resogun, Dead Nation, and Outland.

Sektori is an evolution of the classic twin-stick shooter, offering a mix of randomization with deliberate strategy as you decide when to cash in your points for power-ups,” said developer Kimmo Lahtinen. “It’s classic arcade action with a smidge of roguelike DNA with the ability to spec your ship differently in each run. It’s easy to have fun right out of the gate, but there’s infinite room for improvement as you aim to tackle higher difficulties, climb the leaderboards, or just beat your own personal best attempts! But most importantly, I wanted to focus on game feel, with kaleidoscopic colors and pulsating techno beats that lock you into a hypnotic flow state.

A Trance-Inducing Arcade Experience

Sektori is designed to be an “eye-melting” experience. It fuses high-adrenaline gameplay with kaleidoscopic visuals and a hard-hitting techno soundtrack.

The goal isn’t just to survive; it’s to find a flow state where your reflexes take over and you become one with the chaos.

Unlike traditional shmups where you memorise enemy patterns, Sektori is built on a foundation of procedural generation and dynamic evolution. In the Campaign Mode, you’ll brave five worlds where the battlefield layout, enemy waves, and even the bosses radically change every time you encounter them.

But then, as you slay foes and gather their remains, you’ll unlock upgrades to evolve your ship. However, there’s a twist: you can customise your deck of potential perks. This allows you to mould your run, choosing from faster speed, stronger blasters, additional shields, and more, ensuring that while every run feels familiar, it is always completely unique.

A Mode for Every Mood

The campaign is just the start. Sektori is packed with six additional game modes to keep your thumbs busy:

  • Classic: A remix of the core gameplay with unpredictable mutators.
  • Surge: Rapidly swap between being underpowered and cartoonishly overpowered.
  • Crash: A mode where enemies can only be defeated by dashing into them.
  • Assault: You control the pace, choosing when to up the ante against a dwindling clock.
  • Gates: Enemies are invulnerable until they cross rotating laser posts.
  • Boss Rush: A good old-fashioned gauntlet against the game’s epic bosses.

Your Pilot’s Briefing

Here’s what you can expect from this new arcade shooter:

  • High-Octane Twin-Stick Action: Developed by an ex-Housemarque veteran.
  • Dynamic Campaign: Five worlds with evolving levels, enemies, and bosses.
  • Deep Customisation: Configure your upgrade deck to suit your playstyle.
  • Seven Game Modes: Including unique challenges like Surge, Crash, and Gates.
  • Techno-Infused Atmosphere: A driving soundtrack and vibrant visuals designed to induce a flow state.

The bass is dropping and the screen is filling with bullets.

If you’re a fan of pure, skill-based arcade shooters and want to experience the next evolution of the genre, Sektori is ready to melt your eyes on the Xbox Store right now, playable on Xbox Series X|S. It’s also on PlayStation 5 and PC (Steam).

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
