Even though the virtual tennis scene has become rich with content in the last couple of years, not one attempt at recreating the aces, the bass-line plays, the back-hand smashes or the deep lobs have really paid off. But that’s not stopping NACON from giving it another go and today we find them serving up some next-gen aces on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 through Tennis World Tour 2 Complete Edition.Â
Tennis World Tour 2 first hit the Xbox One, PS4 and PC courts back in September 2020, but honestly, it just didn’t hit the heights we were expecting. In fact, our full review of the game on Xbox One mentioned how it played a couple of foul balls, failing to bring a tennis experience that wasn’t tedious or too much of a grind. Yes it was better than the original Tennis World Tour, but honestly that was so rubbish it couldn’t have ever been worse.
Now though that same game has arrived on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, with a next-gen edition that is not playable on old consoles – please make a note of that before you go trying to utilise the likes of Smart Delivery. What we have though is an upgraded version of the game, one that is now complete with faster loading times, the chance to play in 4K at 60fps, has ray tracing in place, enhanced particle effects and more. What we really want though is just a god-damn decent tennis sim.Â
It may be able to deliver on that too, as this Complete Edition for £49.99 builds in new features too. For a start there are 48 playable tennis stars on hand, and there are also Signature Moves in place as well, allowing each player to his their own style. Further to that, the Career mode is being expanded with more official tournaments and doubles matches. You can see some of the changes in the video below.Â
There’s more though and perhaps a little cheekily of NACON, on the same day as this Complete Edition has hit Xbox Series X|S, another DLC drop has arrived, one that isn’t included in the Complete Edition. We guess that means it’s not actual ‘complete’? But anyways, if you want some new kit, then the Wilson Kit DLC for £1.69 will deliver it. But yeah, it’s a little off that NACON couldn’t bring it upon themselves to include it in the Complete Edition of the game. Hey, if you want to stump up the extra cash, who are we to tell you what to do!
The Xbox Store will play host to the download of both the Wilson Kit and the Xbox Series X|S version of Tennis World Tour Complete Edition. Keep an eye out for a full review from us of the latter too. We’re hoping it’s now the tennis game we want it to be.Â
