E3 2014 is done and dusted, but what were the five standout moments that stole the show?
There were many a great trailer, CGI sequence or video to show off some great games at E3 2014 but there were five that stood out to us more than any others. So let’s discuss and take a look at them!
We’d be happy to watch all five chosen here over and over again (and in fact, we have), but the first on our list is the one that we’ve watched more than any else…just for the fun factor, the Dead Island 2 announcement trailer.
The zombie apocalypse will be hitting California in Spring 2015 on Xbox One and whilst we weren’t great fans of the first game nor the Riptide follow up, if the second is even half as good as it’s announcement trailer, we’re in for a treat. Focusing on a jogger running through California blissfully unaware until it’s too late that the zombie apocalypse is going on around him, the trailer is stunning although we’re not sure if it’s the visuals that make us love the video so much, or if it’s the inclusion of the rather good ‘The Bomb’ by Pigeon John. Maybe a mixture of both.
Set a few months after the original games events in Banoi, California has been put under full quarantine; becoming an action-packed playground for renegades seeking adventure, glory and a fresh start. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Dead Island 2 will bring together elements of immersive close combat, action and role-playing all whilst featuring handcrafted weapons and over the top characters…..all with some seamless multiplayer action for up to 8 players whilst competing, cooperating or coexisting in a social next gen experience.
If zombies aren’t your bag, then you could do worse than watch the Rainbow Six Siege pre-alpha multiplayer footage that was shown during Ubisoft’s show. We’re big fans of Ubi and big fans of Rainbow Six and were more than blown away with what we saw at the end of the show.
Throwing gamers in to the world of counter terrorist operatives and giving them the chance to master the art of destruction and close combat tactics, Siege will be bringing some majorly explosive action and great team matchups to the next gen and the announcement trailer shows that of to great effect.
Pitting Team Raven up against Team Rogue, you’ll get to witness how hostage saving will work in the multiplayer offerings. It may be completely staged and chances are once you get on Live none of the communication will go down but that’s not to say things are looking damn good. Just check out the use of the drone and the crazily good destructible elements and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
And if you’re liking what you see above in Rainbow Six: Siege then you should be loving the goings on in Manhatten with The Division, even if it’s just to experience the Snow Drop engine in full effect.
We’ll set the scene, its Black Friday in New York City and basic services have fallen like a house of cards at the devastating metaphorical hands of a pandemic. Fortunately there are agents living the normal life whom are trained for events like these to help society. These tactical agents once activated are to embark on their mission during the chaos and they are… The Division!
An entirely new and open world hidden among the Himalayas, Kyrat is a country filled with violence and steeped in tradition. Playing as Ajay Ghale, you’ll travel to Kyrat to fulfill your mother’s dying wish only to get caught up in a civil war. Every decision you make will count as you explore and navigate your way through Ubi’s latest offering.
Far Cry 4 was always going to be on our radar. All the previous games including the stupidly good Blood Dragon were big hits in the TXH camp and so the news that Far Cry 4 was to be shown caused more than a slight ripple in these waters. The announcement trailer below is one to watch and fully admire.
Our final standout isn’t something that takes in just one game. ID@Xbox is something we love and without it we wouldn’t be getting the chance to check out great games like Pure Pool, Roundabout, Earthlock: Festival of Magic and Habitat: A Thousand Generations in Orbit (Hit the links for our exclusive interviews)…..And so the montage that Xbox showed at their briefing is one that shouldn’t be missed. Which are you looking forward to seeing?
So, that’s that. Our favourite E3 2014 moments and the ones that for us at least, completely stole the show. What were your best moments? Let us know in the comments below, on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, YouTube….anywhere really!
I agree with your list but love the video by the end of Xbox one conference you know where they show the GOW logo, that was awesome you know is coming
Cheers. GOW is going to be brilliant isn’t it!
