The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales – out now!

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales has finally arrived, giving RPG fans another reason to dive headfirst into Square Enix’s ever-expanding HD-2D universe.

Available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC, this brand-new action RPG comes from the creative minds behind Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default, but takes things in a fresh direction with real-time combat and a sweeping adventure that spans an entire millennium.

It’s also one we’ve had our eye on for a while, recently highlighting it in our Biggest and Best Xbox Games of June 2026 feature. Now the wait is over, and players can finally discover whether Elliot’s journey can stand alongside some of Square Enix’s modern RPG successes.

A New Hero Steps Into The HD-2D Spotlight

The Kingdom of Huther stands as humanity’s final refuge on a continent dominated by beast tribes. Protected by a powerful magical barrier, life within its walls has remained relatively safe – until the discovery of mysterious ancient ruins changes everything.

That discovery sends adventurer Elliot and his fairy companion Faie beyond the kingdom’s borders and into a dangerous world filled with forgotten history, hidden secrets and threats lurking across multiple eras.

Their mission stretches across four distinct ages, gradually revealing a story that spans a thousand years. It’s an ambitious setup, even by RPG standards, and one that promises plenty of twists as the pair attempt to unravel the truth behind their world.

Familiar HD-2D Beauty, New Action-Focused Gameplay

While the visual presentation will immediately remind players of Octopath Traveler, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales isn’t simply repeating the same formula.

This time, Square Enix go big on the action-adventure gameplay, combining exploration, puzzle-solving and real-time combat. Elliot takes centre stage in battle, while Faie provides support abilities that add an extra layer of strategy to encounters.

The result is something that feels like a natural evolution of the HD-2D style. The stunning blend of pixel art and modern lighting remains intact, but the moment-to-moment gameplay offers a much faster pace than many traditional turn-based RPGs.

Deluxe Edition Extras For Dedicated Adventurers

Players can choose between two editions at launch. The Standard Edition is priced at ÂŁ54.99 and includes the full game, while the Digital Deluxe Edition costs ÂŁ64.99 and bundles in three exclusive accessories:

  • Fairy Bangle
  • Cherry Blossom Anklet
  • Roselle Ring

Anyone opting for the Standard Edition can also purchase the Deluxe Edition Upgrade Pack separately for ÂŁ10.

Another Big RPG Arrival

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales arrives during what is proving to be an incredibly busy period for RPG fans. Between major releases, Game Pass additions and a growing catalogue of HD-2D experiences, there’s certainly no shortage of adventures competing for players’ attention.

Whether Elliot can become Square Enix’s next breakout hero remains to be seen, but with gorgeous visuals and a fresh take on the HD-2D formula, this is certainly one of the more intriguing RPG launches of the summer.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is available right now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. Don’t expect to find The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales as part of your Game Pass subscription though. At launch, you’ll need to pay up the big bucks for access. Play Anywhere support is in place though.
