The Backrooms Expand With Level X On Console

The official keyart for Backrooms Level X as it launches on console
Can you handle Level X of the Backrooms?

Few horror concepts have captured internet imagination quite like the Backrooms; endless yellow corridors, flickering lights, and the unsettling sense that something is always just out of sight. Now Backrooms Level X arrives on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, inviting players to step deeper into that nightmare.

Originally launched on Steam in May 2025, where it has gathered “Mixed” player reviews, the console version arrives with updates, improvements, and additional content, giving players another chance to explore the unsettling labyrinth.

Inspired by a mysterious VHS-recorded incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1986, Backrooms Level X blends exploration, puzzles, and survival horror into a tense journey through surreal liminal spaces. We first covered Backrooms Level X when it was revealed back in early 2025, and its unsettling take on liminal horror immediately stood out.

Lost In The Endless Corridors

Backrooms Level X drops players into a reality where logic no longer applies. Familiar environments twist into unsettling versions of themselves; yellow-carpeted rooms stretch endlessly, lights buzz overhead, and every echo feels like a warning.

Exploration is central to the experience. Across more than a dozen interconnected levels, players must uncover clues, piece together a fragmented narrative, and solve environmental puzzles to find a way out.

But escape isn’t simple. Strange entities roam the corridors, and sometimes the most dangerous thing you can do is make noise.

Survival, Puzzles, And Psychological Tension

Rather than relying on constant action, Backrooms Level X leans heavily into tension and unease. Sound design plays a major role, turning footsteps, splashes, and distant movement into potential threats.

The result is a slow-burn horror experience that encourages careful movement and observation.

The console release includes the latest PC content updates, expanding the game with new areas, mechanics, and challenges. Some sections even bend gravity itself, allowing players to traverse ceilings and distorted corridors in ways that challenge spatial awareness.

Boss encounters also break up exploration, forcing players to outsmart massive entities using puzzle-like strategies rather than brute force.

Can You Escape Level X?

Horror doesn’t always need monsters in plain sight to be effective, sometimes the scariest thing is the unknown space around you. Backrooms Level X builds its identity on that idea, creating a world where every corridor looks familiar yet deeply wrong.

Whether you’re drawn in by the mystery, the puzzles, or the creeping dread of liminal horror, Backrooms Level X is ready to trap you inside its maze.

Just don’t expect to find the exit quickly. At least you’ll find the Xbox Store (ÂŁ8.39) more welcoming.
