Since launch on PC and Nintendo Switch in the latter half of 2021, Road 96 has picked up a ton of acclaim. Steam users have given it all the ‘Very Positive’ reviews under the sun and in recent times it’s gathered up multiple other awards. Now though it’s time for that crazy, rather beautiful, road trip of Road 96 to take place on Xbox and PlayStation.

Available today for play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 (as well as still on Nintendo Switch and PC) is Road 96.

A game created by the team at DigixArt, helped along by Ravenscourt, Road 96 is an ever-evolving story-driven adventure, one that will take players to all manner of exciting and beautiful spots. Inspired by the creations of Tarantino, The Coen Brothers and Bong Joon-ho it promises to deliver a trip of a lifetime as players attempt to get to grips with a number of situations.

When you’ve got Valiant Hearts and Memories Retold in your back catalogue, it proves you know a thing or two about game creation, and that’s obviously the case for the team behind this. You see, Road 96 may just be releasing on Xbox and PlayStation, but it’s recently taken home multiple awards at the Pégases Awards too – Best Indie Games, Beyond the Indie Game, Best Accessibility, Best Sound Design and Best Narrative Design have all come this way. Further to that, we included Road 96 in our Up Next piece, detailing the most exciting games to release on Xbox in April 2022.

“We are so proud to have won these, we were hoping for one; five is unbelievable,” said Yoan Fanise, CEO & Creative Director at DigixArt. “There is a large audience waiting for innovative experiences nowadays the gaming world has changed drastically over the last years. Road 96 is a collaborative creation, a reflection of the teams diversity and shows that success is not a matter of a project’s size.”

Throw in a visual style that stuns, a soundtrack that hits and more, and it’s easy to see how Road 96 has gathered up such acclaim.

The key features in all include:

  • Road 96 is a crazy, beautiful road-trip. The discovery of exciting places and unusual people on your own personal journey to freedom.
  • An ever-evolving story-driven adventure inspired by Tarantino, The Coen Brothers and Bong Joon-ho. Made by the award-winning creators of Valiant Hearts and Memories Retold. Announced as part of the OMEN Presents initiative from HP Inc.
  • Moments of action, exploration, contemplative melancholy, human encounters and wacky situations. Set against a backdrop of authoritarian rule and oppression.
  • A stunning visual style, a soundtrack filled with 90s hits and a thousand routes through the game combine so each player can create their own unique stories on Road 96.

Similar vibes hit us during our play of Road 96 on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, allowing chance to provide a full review of how Road 96 plays on Xbox Series X|S.

For now though, hit up the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or either of the Nintendo eShop or Steam where Road 96 has been unraveling for a while and enjoy the creativity that it delivers. £15.99 will sort the download you need.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
