DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake – out today!

It may not seem like the most obvious starting point, but DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is a prequel to DRAGON QUEST I and II. They’re coming later. For now, let’s enjoy the fact that DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is out today on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch.

The start of the Erdrick Trilogy

It isn’t the best present you can give some on their sixteenth birthday, but being entrusted with saving the world is what the king of Aliahan has got you. Some time ago, your father was given the same quest but failed. Now, it is your turn to take up the mantle and defeat Baramos and save the world.

Joining up with old allies and new and take the fight to Baramos. Choose which allies will be in your party, select their appearance and vocation to aid you on your quest. In this remake, there is even a brand-new vocation for you to try. Can we tempt you with the new monster wrangler vocation?

Traditional in every sense of the word

DRAGON QUEST III originally released in Japan in 1988 but has been updated with the same HD-2D visuals that Square Enix has used on the likes of Octopath Traveler. This remake has certainly been given a lick of paint, but without losing the traditional visuals from all those years ago.

The classic gameplay remains too with a turn-based battle system, party tactics, towns, villages and dungeons to explore and more. Just all wrapped up in a modern, but retro, package.

New features include full voice acting in either Japanese or English, a wonderful orchestral soundtrack and adjustable battle settings. You know, nice modern things that don’t detract from the classic game too much.

No need to dust off the cartridge

DRAGON QUEST III HD-2D Remake is on the Xbox Store now priced at £59.99. You’ll also find it on the stores for PlayStation and PC.

That’s for everything too, no fancy DLC costumes or weapons as extras. And stay tuned for our review coming soon. But, for now, let us know in the comments if this game will be the start of your Dragon Quest adventures.
