The chilled and tranquil Stonefly delivers a new epic PC and console adventure

We’d never heard of Flight School Studio prior to their release of the superb Creature in the Well back in 2019, but with that game finding huge success, we’re super excitedly for anything that follows it. And that game is Stonefly, out now on Xbox, Switch, PlayStation and PC.

Available to purchase and download this very minute on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC (through both Steam and the Epic Games Store), Stonefly will see you heading off on a mech-fuelled adventure through the most enchanting of forests. You do this by following the life of a naive inventor, Annika Stonefly, as they attempt to take in a quest to recover a long lost family heirloom.

And this is one gorgeous adventure. Put together with a super rich handcrafted artstyle that has been inspired by the mid-century modernism, mixing it with a nature vibe, in Stonefly you’ll find yourself helping Annika invent and craft abilities before attaching them to their mech. From there, it’s pretty much a case of wandering into the wilderness, taking advantage of the wind to glide through the flora and fauna.

A dangerous journey awaits though – mostly as you’ll constantly find yourself confronted by hordes of hungry bugs – but by making friends along the way, and allowing Annika to realise her full potential, the story of Stonefly should certainly see you invested for the long haul.

“It’s been a really rewarding journey for us to realize the world of Stonefly, and we can’t wait for players to dive into it,” said Bohdon Sayre, Game Director at Flight School Studio. “As a studio, we challenge ourselves to develop unique and interesting experiences, and Stonefly is the culmination of many individual pieces coming together towards that goal. We’ve already had so much support from early players and fans, and we hope everyone else enjoys gliding around the forest and helping Annika on her journey as much as we do.”

“From start to finish, Stonefly is a visually captivating game that features an inspiring narrative, unique gameplay mechanics, intriguing characters and an immersive soundtrack, all wrapped up into this tranquil gaming experience,” said Ethan Stearns, executive vice president of MWM Interactive. “Flight School Studio’s artistic vision really shines through the experiences they craft, and Stonefly is a stunning game that players need to experience.”

We’re currently working on a full review of Stonefly on Xbox Series X and will be presenting it towards your eyes as soon as we can. It is however already featured in our ‘Up Next’ article, included in and amongst the most exciting games to release on Xbox through the month of June 2021

If you’re sold on the premise or just wish to see what Flight School have been up to since the launch of Creature in the Well, you’ll find a copy of Stonefly available from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for £16.74, the PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS5, the Nintendo eShop for Switch folk and through both Steam and the Epic Games Store for gamers preferring the way of the PC.

Let us know if you decide to pick it up.
