2026's Best Games

You may have played Grindstone, whether that be as it debuted on Apple Arcade, or via the worlds of Nintendo Switch or PC. Whatever, there’s a chance you would have succumbed to the magic found within. Now it’s time for Grindstone to play out on Xbox and PlayStation.

Coming from the Capybara Games team, Grindstone is a critically acclaimed puzzler that has immersed players on numerous formats for hours on end. And now comes the chance for Xbox and PlayStation folk to understand the addiction.

Available right now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 – there is no Xbox One play or love here – Grindstone is a challenging but quick pick-up and play puzzler in which you’ll be found honing your skills as a stonegrinder, attempting to climb a mountain and mine the Grinestones from the Creeps that call it theirs.

Promising an epic adventure, Grindstone from Capybara Games is something of sheer delight, as you work through the 200+ campaign levels before dropping into a host of other options that continue the grind. It’s a game that we absolutely adore and have played to death in recent times – no more so than the hours we’ve pumped into the Xbox version of Grindstone in order to deliver our review.

That review of Grindstone on Xbox Series X|S is live, with a 4.5/5 score attached to it. You’d do well to give that a read immediately, but – spoiler alert – it ends with the following glowing recommendation… “Oh Grindstone, we’re trapped underneath you again. Grindstone represents the absolute zenith of puzzling, and you should bump and grind against its smooth edges as soon as the opportunity presents itself. One hour will lead to another, and soon it will be three weeks later. You have been warned (but do it anyway).

Need more? The key features of Grindstone as it drops onto Xbox and PlayStation include…

  • â—Ź 500+ unique puzzle levels across 13 unique biomes filled with tons of enemy types, bosses and challenges – Including a Boss Rush mode and New Game +.
  • â—Ź Seasonal Events, Engaging Trophies/Achievements + 3 Daily Challenge Modes & Leaderboards – On top of its treasure trove of levels, Grindstone always has a new challenge for players to apply their stonegrinding skills towards.
  • â—Ź Various options for player customization – Play as a hard working father & husband Jorj, or a tough-as-nails grandmother Jorja, unlock dozens and dozens of in-game cosmetics and items, and even make use of a High Contrast accessibility mode if needed
  • â—Ź 4K/60fps on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Sold? Good. Get over to the Xbox Store and grab a download of Grindstone on Xbox Series X|S right now. It’ll cost you ÂŁ14.99, discounted down to ÂŁ11.99 for two week post-launch. You’ll find Grindstone on PlayStation, Switch and PC (Steam) too.

Game Description:

Grindstone is a puzzle game where epic adventures are just your 9-to-5. Part color-matching, part monster-slaying ridiculousness, in CAPY’s hit game Grindstone you are a stonegrinder and it’s your job to mine grindstones from the Creeps that lurk on the mountain. Climb the mountain by completing over 250 levels of intricate puzzles and hazards, all in the hopes of saving up enough grindstones to take your family on a much needed vacation.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
