Anthologies seem to be all the rage these days: Black Mirror, Inside No. 9 and Electric Dreams to name just a few. So, it stands to reason that it wouldn’t be long before gamers experienced their own anthology series, and that all starts today with the release of Man of Medan on Xbox One and PS4, the first part in The Dark Pictures Anthology.
Man of Medan features five friends – including video game favourite Shawn Ashmore – embarking on a diving trip. Things start badly as their ship is overrun by pirates, but then get worse when they become trapped on a ghost ship shortly afterwards.
Developed by Supermassive Games and available to purchase and download right now, Man of Medan follows the same path as their 2015 release, Until Dawn; a horror game featuring a strong narrative and decisions for the player to choose from at every corner. Each of the five characters can die by making the wrong decisions, but each can live through their ordeal if you pick the right decisions.
There is also local and online co-operative play. Online has two players playing through the game together, each experiencing real-time different scenarios. Work together to keep the five alive, or you could always purposefully kill them?
Movie Night mode is for two to five players all in the same room with a pass and play controller. This will let you experience the horror together… just don’t be the one that screams the loudest.
Man of Medan is available to download now on Xbox One and PS4 priced at £24.99. For those that have pre-ordered, you also unlock The Curator’s Cut which features new scenes from other characters perspectives and new decisions to alter the outcome of the story.
