Funguys Swarm keyart
Funguys Swarm – out now on Xbox and Play Anywhere

The forest is on fire, the enemies are multiplying and the only ones standing in the way of total disaster are a bunch of armed mushrooms. Sounds ridiculous? That’s precisely the point of Funguys Swarm, a colourful survivor bullet hell that has now arrived on Xbox and PC.

From Stairway Games, Funguys Swarm puts players in the role of a Funguy – one of several mushroom heroes ready to take on the Fire King’s army. Expect waves of enemies, increasingly silly powers and plenty of opportunities to turn a humble mushroom into a nature-powered menace.

The Forest Is Fighting Back

The Fire King’s forces have turned the forest into a rather dangerous place, sending flaming minions, mutated vegetables and other strange creatures into battle.

Thankfully, the Funguys aren’t short on options.

Players can choose from a cast of mushroom heroes, each with their own abilities and approach to combat. Whether you prefer getting close to the action or keeping enemies at a safer distance, there should be room to find a Funguy that suits your preferred style.

The challenge, of course, is staying alive as the chaos steadily ramps up.

Build A Bonkers Mushroom Warrior

As you battle through the swarm, new weapons, skills and upgrades can be picked up and combined, allowing you to create increasingly powerful builds.

Forest-crafted weaponry and over-the-top abilities are at the heart of the experience, with each run offering opportunities to experiment with different combinations. The longer you survive, the more ridiculous things can become.

And when the ordinary weapons aren’t enough? Well, Funguys Swarm also features powerful mechas. Powered by the forest and some admittedly questionable engineering, these machines give the mushroom heroes another weapon against the Fire King’s forces. Whether they really should work is apparently beside the point – because they do.

There are also giant bosses to contend with, while an even bigger threat awaits at the end of each arena.

The Swarm Is Here

Funguys Swarm looks set to bring plenty of colour and chaos to the survivor-style genre, mixing roguelike progression with increasingly wild builds and a cast of mushroom heroes who aren’t particularly interested in letting the forest burn.

Between runs, the Sanctuary offers the chance to upgrade your powers and prepare for whatever madness comes next. Because if the Fire King thinks a few flames are enough to stop these Funguys, he may have seriously underestimated his opposition.

Funguys Swarm is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Xbox Play Anywhere. You know the Xbox Store is ready to take your money…
