Some heroes are forged in fire. Others are forged in… beans!??!? We feel the latter is the set-up for Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition.

Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition launches on Xbox Series X|S and PC with Xbox Play Anywhere support for ÂŁ16.74, bringing with it what might be the most gloriously ridiculous Souls-like parody of recent years.

Developed and published by GamePoc, this action-RPG doesn’t just wink at the genre; it leans in, breaks the fourth wall, and then clears the room entirely.

And no, it’s not on Game Pass at launch. But yes, it absolutely knows what it’s doing.

At A Glance

  • Game: Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition
  • Developer: GamePoc LTD
  • Publisher: GamePoc LTD
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC, Play Anywhere
  • Price: ÂŁ16.74
  • Genre: Action RPG / Soulslike Parody

Not The Chosen One – Just Gassy

Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition takes the brooding intensity of the Souls-like formula and flips it on its head.

You’re not a cursed warrior. Not a fallen knight. Not a resurrected demigod. You’re a blacksmith with a questionable bean-heavy diet who accidentally absorbed ancient dragon powers.

Now it’s up to you to take on tech billionaires, absurd corporate overlords, and over-the-top villains in a world that’s as dramatic as it is deeply unserious.

The tone? Pure parody. The combat? Surprisingly committed.

The Gas-Souls Combat System

At the heart of the madness is the self-proclaimed “Gas-Souls” combat system. It plays with familiar Souls-like structure, that of stamina management, boss encounters, and precise timing, but layers it with absurdity.

Dive in and you should expect:

  • Fart-powered dash mechanics
  • Dramatic zoom-ins when devouring magical bean burritos
  • Outrageous finishing moves
  • Pose-striking mid-combat flair

Yes, this is a game where gas-meter management directly impacts performance. Multiple endings hinge on how you play, and how well you control your… emissions.

Breaking The Fourth Wall (And Everything Else)

Dark Farts doesn’t hide behind subtle satire. The protagonist regularly breaks the fourth wall, acknowledging the absurdity of the situation while still delivering pun-heavy dialogue and weaponised dad jokes.

Boss battles escalate into theatrical spectacles. Tech billionaires loom as exaggerated caricatures. The entire structure pokes fun at genre conventions, from epic lore dumps to dramatic slow-walk cutscenes.

And yet, beneath the gas-powered humour, there’s a real action-RPG framework. Combat requires timing. Enemies hit hard. You’ll still learn patterns, adapt builds, and retry fights after defeat.

A Parody With Purpose

It’s worth noting that despite the outrageous humour, the game includes a clear disclaimer stating it does not condone or promote negative stereotypes. The satire is aimed squarely at genre tropes, overblown corporate villains, and self-serious RPG design.

Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition exists purely to entertain. And to make you laugh. Hopefully.

A Hero Nobody Asked For

Available now on Xbox Series X|S and PC with Play Anywhere support, Dark Farts: Parody Smell Edition delivers a deliberately over-the-top spin on the Souls-like genre.

It’s not on Game Pass – at least not at launch – so if you want to experience dragon-powered flatulence in full 4K glory, you’ll need to commit the ÂŁ16.74. Just make your way to the Xbox Store.

The question isn’t whether you’re ready. It’s whether the world is ready for you.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
