Ever since the official confirmation back in February of 2021 brought hope for many, Diablo II: Resurrected has been a game on the lips. Now though it’s time to head back to the classic as the gates of hell open up for Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Switch players.

Diablo II: Resurrected is now available to purchase and download on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (fully optimised), PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Priced at £34.99 for the standard edition of the game, the Lord of Terror is found clawing his way out of those old dusty CRT monitors and into glorious HD everywhere, with the definitive remaster of Diablo II and its Lord of Destruction expansion.

Faithfully modernised to be more stunning, more accessible, and more fun than ever before, Diabo II: Resurrected has been put together to take full advantage of today’s modern gaming hardware. It supports up to 4K resolution, includes fully remastered 7.1 Dolby Surround audio and lets players take in all 27 minutes of the original game’s cinematics, just now re-shot with stunning high-fidelity visuals. It’s pretty safe to say that those behind Resurrection have put in some rather considerable work, preserving the authenticity of the experience from back in the day. You see, even back in 2000 Diablo II was hellishly addictive.

“Diablo II: Resurrected will introduce one of our most beloved games to all-new audiences,” said Jen Oneal, co-leader of Blizzard Entertainment. “It was an honor for Vicarious Visions to join Blizzard and form the team that brought this classic back to life. Everyone involved was driven by a commitment to do right by the players, and I’m hugely proud of what they’ve accomplished.”

It’s been developed by Blizzard Entertainment and their in-house studio Vicarious Visions. With cross-progression in the house, players can log into their Battle.net account anywhere they have purchased the game for access to their characters and loot. But there have also been a further array of accessibility and quality-of-life options, allowing players to fine-tune their experience without ever compromising its classic gameplay. These improvements include:

  • Controller support on all platforms
  • Font scaling, colorblind modes, and readability options
  • Emote wheel for faster communication
  • Volume adjustment across a multitude of audio channels
  • Auto-gold pickup
  • Increased and shared stash
  • Extensive key-binding options, including a bindable ‘Interact’ hotkey on controllers, and more

What else do we have? Well, Diablo II: Resurrected features seven iconic playable character classes – The Amazon, Barbarian, Necromancer, Paladin and Sorceress, along with the Druid and Assassin from Lord of Destruction. The new 3D heroes have updated armour, clothing, skin textures, animations, and more, as you would expect from a game that has received a massive graphical overhaul. But even though it has been updated, the characters, monsters, and environments in Diablo II: Resurrected still capture the dark ambience that Diablo fans remember. Reliving those memories is a cinch, too as swapping between the modern 3D graphics and the original 2D experience only takes the push of a button.

So what are you waiting for? Get over to the store of your choosing and grab Diablo II: Resurrected right now. The Xbox Store link is here, but you’ll also find the game on PlayStation, Switch and PC.

There’s also the £49.99 Prime Evil Collection which includes Diablo III and other content too.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
