The ghostly goings-on of I Am Dead reach Xbox and PlayStation

Not to be mistaken with the madcap I Am Bread from back in 2017, Annapurna Interactive and Hollow Ponds have delivered the charming puzzle adventure, I Am Dead to Xbox and PlayStation. And whilst it’s still weird, it’s about as far removed from any toast based antics as you could imagine. Although it is very much focused on being brown bread – dead!

I Am Dead has previously launched on Nintendo Switch and PC, gathering up some pretty critical acclaim in the process. Now though it’s time for Xbox and PlayStation folk to head to the island of Shelmerston to join the isle’s recently deceased museuym curator – Morris Lupton.

Yep, you read that right, recently deceased, as in I Am Dead you’ll be left interacting and versing with multiple ghosts as you help Lupton and his little dog Sparky – also a ghost! – attempt to understand the mysteries and secrets of this isle. Do so and you’ll be able to thwart an upcoming disaster. Fail, and well, Shelmerston will change forevermore.

Priced at £16.74 from the Xbox Store (PlayStation pricing may vary), and available to purchase and download right this second on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, I Am Dead will see you visiting all manner of island locales, as you delve into the past lives of those who called the island home. With history unfolding at every turn, and a curious cast of inhabitants and visitors to check out, I Am Dead could well be an intrepid adventurer’s detective dream.

We’re sold on the artstyle and when you consider that this comes about via the creator of the rather delightful Wilmot’s Warehouse, the anticipation for how things will play out on this island reach new levels. It gets even more exciting when you consider the ‘Very Positive’ Steam reviews that I Am Dead has grabbed since launch there in 2020 – stay tuned to find out how things go down on Xbox Series X|S in the days ahead; we’re putting together our full thoughts right now.

Should you wish to join us by taking a trip to Shelmerston and are ready to go deep into the lives of the deceased, I Am Dead should be grabbed from the Xbox Store or PlayStation Store this very minute. And if neither of those formats suit, consider spending some time at the Nintendo eShop or Steam page as well.

As always, let us know how you get on with I Am Dead. The comments are below.

Game Description:

I Am Dead is a charming puzzle adventure game from the creators of Hohokum and Wilmot’s Warehouse about exploring the afterlife. Morris Lupton is the recently-deceased museum curator of the tiny island of Shelmerston who is reunited with the ghost of his dog Sparky, only to discover that a disaster is about to destroy his beloved island. Together, they must uncover Shelmerston’s ancient mysteries, prevent the island’s volcano from erupting, and save the place they call home. Morris and Sparky must unearth a number of Shelmerston’s lost and scattered ghosts. To find them, the duo must visit the places they spent time in, dive inside the memories of the people who knew them best, and learn the stories of their lives. To help with their mission, Morris uses his newfound power that allows him to peer inside objects and people to reveal their contents and memories, like a supernatural X-Ray! Along the way you will discover many stories about the history and folklore of Shelmerston, and its cast of curious inhabitants and visitors: tourist finches, the fishfolk, morlos, and the Legend of Aggi – the one who originally silenced the volcano…

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
