The God Slayer – coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC

The makers of cozy life-sims are trading their pickaxes for elemental powers and vengeance.

Pathea Games, the acclaimed studio behind the multi-million selling My Time series, has today officially unveiled The God Slayer.

This brand-new, open-world action RPG is a stark departure from their previous work, promising a gritty steampunk fantasy adventure when it launches on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Revealed with a stunning new cinematic and gameplay trailer, this premium title invites players to step into an Eastern-inspired metropolis ruled by tyrannical gods, where the only path to freedom is to hunt them down.

From Cozy Building to God-Slaying

Pathea Games has built a stellar reputation for creating immersive, heartwarming worlds. We were huge fans of their previous outings. In our review of My Time at Portia, we called it “hugely in-depth and immersive,” noting that it was “both satisfying and addictive.

Similarly, we awarded My Time at Sandrock a 4/5 score, praising it as a “highly playable game” where “you’ll certainly never get bored.

With The God Slayer, the studio is taking that expertise in world-building and character depth and applying it to something much darker and more serious.

“Thematically The God Slayer is a big departure from what Pathea is known for, namely the My Time series,” explained Zifei Wu, founder and creative director at Pathea. “However we’ve made multiple open-world RPGs before, filled with beloved characters and varied systems for players to experiment with and flourish. The God Slayer has all that and more with our talented development team attempting something darker and more serious in tone, bolstered by thrilling elemental combat at its core.”

Welcome to the Zhou Kingdom

The game is set in a sprawling, Eastern-inspired steampunk metropolis within the Zhou Kingdom. It’s a world of stark contrasts, where the fortunate few enjoy the miracles of modern technology – airships, monorails, and steam vehicles – while the majority toil in soot-blackened factories beneath the weight of noble privilege.

Ruling over all are the Celestials, god-like beings who created humanity to cultivate ‘Qi’ to fuel their eternal lives. But when humans learned to channel Qi into elemental powers, the Celestials retaliated with the “God Fall,” a brutal night of slaughter that wiped out the kingdom’s resistance.

Become an Elemancer

In this 40-hour story-driven campaign, you play as Cheng, a gifted Elemancer seeking vengeance for his family lost during the God Fall.

The core combat system revolves around harnessing the elements. You will combine fire, water, earth, metal, and wood to create powerful attacks and weaponry. This fully customisable system allows you to experiment with different strategies, bending the environment to your whim and unleashing thrilling combos to dominate foes big and small.

Play Your Way

The God Slayer promises a high degree of player freedom too. In fact, missions can be approached in multiple ways:

  • Direct Combat: Attack enemies head-on with your elemental martial arts.
  • Stealth and Subterfuge: Find hidden routes, bribe guards, or create diversions to slip past unnoticed.
  • Strategic Choices: Use your powers to distract enemies or manipulate the battlefield to your advantage.

Summary of Key Features

  • Open-World Steampunk: Explore a massive, reactive Eastern-inspired metropolis filled with advanced technology and magic.
  • Deep Customisation: Create your own fighting style by combining five different elements.
  • Player Choice: Tackle missions through combat, stealth, or diplomacy.
  • Epic Narrative: A 40-hour story of vengeance against the gods who wronged humanity.
  • Platforms: Coming to Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The era of the Celestials is ending, and the resistance is beginning to rise. With a darker tone, a fascinating setting, and the proven RPG pedigree of Pathea Games behind it, The God Slayer is shaping up to be a thrilling evolution for the studio.

We’ll be watching the skies closely for a release date. There’s a Steam page up if you need it.
