The Hero of Yokohama is trading his baseball bat for a steering wheel.

SEGA has today released a brand-new, free content drop for its chaotic arcade racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The legendary and lovable Ichiban Kasuga from the Like a Dragon series is now available as a playable character in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for all players on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

This unexpected and brilliant crossover brings one of SEGA’s most iconic new heroes to the starting grid, ready to go toe-to-toe with the Blue Blur himself.

A Hero Worthy of a Crossover

For those who might be wondering why this crossover is such a big deal, Ichiban Kasuga is the celebrated, larger-than-life protagonist of the modern Like a Dragon series. We have been completely captivated by his journey, and in our perfect 5/5 review of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, we called it a “magnum opus” and “the 2024 GOTY.

Seeing this legendary hero bring his over-the-top enthusiasm and chaotic energy to a kart racer is a crossover we didn’t know we needed.

What’s in the Ichiban Content Drop?

This free Ichiban Content Drop is an automatic update for all players who own either the Standard or Digital Deluxe versions of the game. This isn’t just a simple skin; this is a full-fledged new racer:

  • Ichiban Kasuga (Playable Character): Step into the racing boots of the one and only Hero of Yokohama.
  • The Dragon Brave Vehicle: Ichiban brings his signature style to the track with his new “Dragon Brave” kart.
  • Special Emotes and Sounds: Taunt your rivals with the boundless, over-the-top energy of Ichi himself.

Another Great Addition to a Brilliant Racer

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has been a massive hit since its launch, proving that SEGA is a true contender in the arcade racing space. We were completely blown away by it, and in our 4.5/5 review, we praised it as a valiant effort that “can easily go toe-to-toe with even the Mario Karts of the genre.

A key part of its success is the CrossWorlds concept, which sees racers warp through Travel Rings into new dimensions. This has already led to some wild crossovers, including the recent blockbuster Minecraft pack.

The addition of Ichiban Kasuga proves that SEGA is fully committed to embracing the chaotic crossover potential of its many beloved universes.

This new free character joins an already massive roster of 23 iconic Sonic characters, 45 unique vehicles, and 70 different gadgets, all playable across a variety of online and local co-op modes.

The starting grid just got a whole lot more legendary. Seeing the Hero of Yokohama line up against Sonic, Tails, and the rest of the crew is the kind of crossover magic that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was built for. This free Ichiban Kasuga Content Drop is a fantastic reason to jump back into the driver’s seat and cause some dimension-hopping mayhem.

The update is live and ready to download now. Just ensure you have a copy of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to hand. We’ll point you to the Xbox Store.
