A new dungeon-crawling adventure, boldly inspired by the magic of classic board games, has just rolled its dice.
Dark Quest 4, the next instalment in the beloved Dark Quest series, has launched today. It comes from those at Brain Seal and is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and PC for ÂŁ16.74.
After an incredibly addictive but deeply flawed predecessor, this new entry aims to deliver the ultimate tactical, tabletop-inspired adventure that fans have been craving.
Our Love/Hate Relationship with Dark Quest 3
We’ve been down this dark and puzzling road before. Our 3.5/5 review of Dark Quest 3 was a story of pure conflict. We found it to be a baffling experience, a “strategy game that has had a tactical lobotomy” and was “built on the shoddiest foundations possible.“
And yet… we couldn’t stop playing it. We admitted:
“Why do we keep coming back to play Dark Quest 3? Blame a fantastic upgrade system, and the temptation of playing one more time… We can’t recall a game that would anger us as much as it addicted us.“
Dark Quest 4 doesn’t just need to be good; it needs to fix the “questionable award” its predecessor earned and finally merge that addictive loop with compelling gameplay.
The promise of this sequel has been on our radar for a long time. We’ve been tracking this one since March, when we first reported that the tabletop-inspired RPG action of Dark Quest 4 was announced. Now, after a successful demo during Steam Next Fest, the final adventure is here to face judgment.
What’s New in the Dungeon This Time?
Dark Quest 4 looks to be a massive leap forward, introducing features that fans have been asking for.
This is a bold mix of turn-based tactics and classic board game magic, evoking the feel of HeroQuest, Descent, and Dungeon Saga. You’ll lead a party of heroes against the Dark Sorcerer’s puppet, Gulak, whose monstrous legions have been stealing villagers in the dead of night.
The game features 30+ handcrafted quests, over 40 unique monsters, and 10 playable heroes to command. The biggest new feature is the fully voiced Dungeon Master, who narrates every adventure with wit and menace, making it feel like a true tabletop session.
What[‘s more, you’ll get to team up and build your own adventure – the other massive upgrade. Dark Quest 4 features both online and local co-op for up to three players, allowing you to team up with friends to overcome Gulak’s legions.
Beyond that, the game offers a deep Creator Mode, allowing you to design your own dungeons, quests, and full campaigns to share with the community.
Your Hero’s Quest Log
Here’s what you can expect from this new dungeon crawl:

The dice have been rolled on what could be the redemption of the series.
