Overthrown – out in full

The scaffolding is down, the banners have been raised, and the Overthrown kingdom is finally complete!

After a successful and chaotic period in Xbox Game Preview and Early Access, the full 1.0 version of the co-operative city-builder Overthrown launches today.

The ambitious title from Brimstone Games is available today in its finished form on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC for £20.99, and remains available to all Game Pass subscribers, as well as running Play Anywhere support.

This isn’t just the end of the development road; it’s the beginning of a whole new era of adventure, as the 1.0 launch arrives with the massive, game-changing Airship Update.

A Kingdom That Reaches for the Skies

The headline feature arriving with the full launch today is the brand-new Airship Update. This huge content drop opens up the heavens for the first time, introducing aerial exploration to the game. This new verticality comes with its own dangers, as a host of new outlaws bring fresh threats and dynamic new encounters to your fledgling kingdom.

This update is the culmination of a year of consistent growth. Players who have been with the game since its Game Preview launch will have seen it expand significantly, most recently with the Coastal Update which added aquatic creatures, fishing boats, and new weapons to the ever-growing world.

The Power of a Soul-Stealing Crown

At its heart, Overthrown is a game about building a kingdom from scratch in a perilous wilderness, but with a wonderfully chaotic twist.

Thanks to your magical, soul-stealing crown, resource gathering is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Why chop down trees when you can throw the entire tree at your sawmill, or even run through the forest carrying the sawmill to absorb trees along the way? The power is in your hands, and you can even pick up entire monster nests and strategically place them near bandit camps to have them fight each other while you sneak in for the loot.

The combat is just as wild. You can run across a lake at 100 km/h to rescue villagers from mutants, or you can spin-attack so fast that you take off like a helicopter to descend upon your enemies from the skies like a whirlwind of death.

A Royal History

We’ve been eagerly following this crown’s journey since its very beginning. It was way back in December of last year that we first jumped into the chaos, when we reported that you could build, battle, and betray your friends in this chaotic city-builder on Game Pass.

It’s been a long and exciting road from that initial preview to the full and feature-packed kingdom we see today.

Your Coronation Checklist

Here’s what you can expect from the full 1.0 version of this chaotic city-builder:

  • The Full 1.0 Launch: The beloved Game Preview title has now launched in its complete form.
  • The Huge New Airship Update: Introducing aerial exploration and new outlaws.
  • 6-Player Online Co-op: Where you can build together… or overthrow your friends.
  • Unique “Lift Anything” Mechanic: Resource gathering is fun, easy, and chaotic.
  • Anime-Style Combat: Run on water and take off like a helicopter.
  • Deep City-Building and Survival Mechanics.

The kingdom has been built, the crown has been polished, and a whole new era of aerial adventure begins today. If you’re a fan of chaotic, creative co-op games, the full 1.0 version of Overthrown is ready for your reign on the Xbox Store today.

We’ll get on that full review.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
