The Last Cube finds a home on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

-

the last cube launch

It was a year ago when we first heard of The Last Cube, Improx Games’ 3D puzzler. Now it’s time to finally get hands on, rolling, dashing, hopping and um, cloning, our way to mental victory.

The Last Cube comes to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC with one sole goal in mind – to test the brains of players like never before.

It comes from the Improx Games team, dropping us gamers into a series of werid and wonderful landscapes, before requesting we navigate our way around them and attempt to uncover the history of the alien civilization that calls it home.

Promising tons of atmosphere, The Last Cube pretty much does as the name suggests; you’re a cube and you are the last of your kind. But you are quite clever, able to utilise stickers that grant all new abilities – abilities that will no doubt be much needed. You see, some of these will let you dash, others will create steps for you to move across. More still will deliver the ability to spin on the spot; something that is pretty tricky for a cube.

There are a good 100 or so puzzles found within The Last Cube, with new mechanics coming out of those fairly swiftly.

Don’t expect to be bored of this one in a hurry.

The key features include:

  • Roll, dash, hop, clone – and more: Solve puzzles the cube way: stamp stickers to your sides and use their special powers. New mechanics and abilities are frequently introduced, always surprising you with what your little cube is capable of!
  • Exploration is rewarded: Find secrets, complete extra challenges, and untangle the mystery of what brought your world to the brink of ruin. No matter the obstacle, your curious cube is determined to keep rolling.
  • Varied, atmospheric environments: The cube planet is an expansive world featuring a wide array of brutalist architecture that ranges from foggy nightmarish abysses, to oppressive lava lit factories, to uplifting natural landscapes full of golden rays of sunshine glistening against mountains. There’s a new surprise around every corner!

We’ll detail what is good, and what is not quite so good, in regards The Last Cube and how it plays on Xbox in the coming days, but if you wish to get yourself involved, you’ll find that the Xbox Store is more than capable of delivering the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S download you need for £14.99. You’ll also find it on PC through Steam, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

Game Description:

Venture into the desolate cube world where you’ll discover 3D puzzles in diverse, colorful environments. As the Last Cube, you must prove your worth and save your dying home.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
