The keyart for a brand new expansion on Xbox, PlayStation and PC - The Last Faith: Awakened Ancients
The Last Faith: Awakened Ancients adds New Game Plus, new bosses, and brutal new modes in a free expansion

The Last Faith is calling players back into the cursed depths of Mythringal, as Awakened Ancients, a free expansion, launches across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Developed by Kumi Souls Games and published by Playstack, this substantial update doesn’t just add content – it fundamentally reshapes how the gothic soulslike-metroidvania can be experienced, explored, and endured.

With new areas, new characters, fresh modes, and the arrival of New Game Plus, Awakened Ancients is aimed squarely at players who thought they had already seen everything The Last Faith had to offer.

A Return To Mythringal For The Faithful

Awakened Ancients invites players to descend once more into The Last Faith’s haunting world, layering additional systems and challenges onto an already punishing adventure. Whether you’re returning as Eryk or unlocking one of the new playable characters, the expansion introduces secrets, encounters, and trials that reward mastery and perseverance.

This update also arrives alongside a wider patch, delivering quality-of-life improvements and refinements that make this the most polished version of The Last Faith to date.

New Enemies, Bosses And A True Test Of Skill

For those hungry for fresh combat encounters, Awakened Ancients does not hold back.

Players will face seven new unique enemies and five formidable bosses, each designed to push understanding of combat mechanics, timing, and execution to the limit. These battles reinforce what The Last Faith does best – precise, punishing combat where style and survival go hand in hand.

New executions and gameplay tweaks further enhance the flow of combat, giving veterans even more brutal ways to dispatch the horrors that stand in their path.

New Modes That Change How You Play

Rather than simply extending the main journey, Awakened Ancients introduces multiple new ways to experience The Last Faith.

Dungeon Mode

Unlocked within Oxnevylle Manor after obtaining the Nighthunter’s Grappling Claw, Dungeon Mode opens an entirely new gameplay area. Players can choose from three new characters, uncover fresh weapons and items, encounter new NPCs, and battle exclusive enemies and bosses. Completing Dungeon Mode rewards a new cosmetic skin.

New Game Plus And Beyond

One of the most requested features finally arrives. New Game Plus allows players to restart the adventure with increased difficulty, either as Eryk or one of the newly unlocked characters. For those who refuse to stop, the challenge escalates through NG+2, NG+3, and beyond.

Be warned – activating New Game Plus replaces previous save data and resets all events.

Boss Rush Mode

Unlocked after completing the main game and starting New Game Plus, Boss Rush Mode lets players take on nearly every boss from the core experience in one relentless gauntlet. Optional bosses are included, though Dungeon Mode exclusives are excluded. Completing the mode unlocks another new skin.

Tower Of Despair

Accessible from the Extras menu after finishing the game, the Tower of Despair is a survival-focused mode that pits players against escalating waves of enemies from across The Last Faith’s acts. The question here is simple – how long can you last?

What Awakened Ancients Adds At A Glance

  • A free expansion
  • 7 new enemies and 5 new bosses
  • A brand-new gameplay area and Dungeon Mode
  • New Game Plus with escalating NG+ tiers
  • Boss Rush and survival-focused Tower of Despair modes
  • New characters, weapons, items, executions, and cosmetic rewards

A Strong Foundation Made Stronger

When we reviewed The Last Faith back in 2023, we awarded it a 4.5/5, praising its combat and atmosphere while noting only minor navigational frustrations:

“There isn’t a lot to complain about with The Last Faith. I would have liked a little bit of signposting as it is very easy to get lost, but the style and the crunching combat more than make up for this… If you want to try something a bit different, then The Last Faith could well be the blend of genres for you.”

Awakened Ancients builds directly on those strengths, offering deeper challenges, more variety, and far greater replayability for players willing to face its darkest trials.

The Definitive Way To Experience The Last Faith

With Awakened Ancients now live, The Last Faith feels more complete than ever. Whether you’re returning to Mythringal to prove your devotion or stepping into New Game Plus for the first time, this free expansion delivers meaningful content rather than filler.

The Last Faith: Awakened Ancients is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S (through the Xbox Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is due to arrive at a later date.
