When you’ve got The Binding of Isaac under your belt, as well as Super Meat Boy and others, there’s always going to be a huge amount of anticipation in what can be created. Step forward Edmund McMillen and the release of The Legend of Bum-Bo on console.

Having kicked around on Steam for a few years, The Legend of Bum-bo makes a move for the console land, working as the official prequel to The Binding of Isaac and releasing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. We’re not sure you’re going to want to miss this one.

Available to purchase and download right now from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, optimised for Series, as well as on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, The Legend of Bum-bo is a deckbuilding roguelike in which you’ll be tasked with gathering up a host of items before amending them as you see fit.

Modifications, upgrading parts and combining them with each other is the name of the game in The Legend of Bum-bo, all in hope of uncovering a variety of abilities and ideas. When ready, it’ll then be up to you to take on the role of a titular Bum-bo in order to destroy all manner of cardboard foes. There will be more than a few bosses lurking too.

Sold as a prequel to The Binding of Isaac, we’re pretty sure this one is going to be right at the very top of most gamers’ radars. If not, we’re not sure what else can be done to sell it to you, but grabbing it from the likes of the Xbox Store for £14.99 seems like a bit of a no-brainer.

We’ll let you know how it plays in review, but in the meantime drop into the comments and let us know your thoughts on this one. Have you played it previously on Steam? Are you coming in green to this on console? We’d love to hear from you.

Game Description:

The Legend of Bum-bo is a puzzle based “deckbuilding roguelike” by Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac, Super Meat Boy) and James Interactive, where players collect hordes of items that can be modified, upgraded and comboed with others in many interesting ways. Play as one of many Bum-bo, each with its own unique abilities, as they smash, bash and splash their way through a variety of cardboard monstrosities, giant bosses and dark personal urges… oh also its the prequel to The Binding of Isaac!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
