It’s been some four years since The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was first announced, with plans to drop onto PC and console just a couple of years later. Delays happen, but now, finally, we have a fully confirmed release date.

Daedalic Entertainment and NACON have today confirmed that their story drive adventure across Middle-earth, that of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, will be releasing on Xbox, PlayStation and PC real soon. How soon? How does May 25th 2023 sound? That will then be followed by a Nintendo Switch drop later in the year.

A game that is based on The Lord of the Rings trilogy – obviously – Gollum will focus on one of the most iconic of characters. It will have you playing as Gollum, as you embark on a whole new adventure, a journey of peril in which you are found chasing the one thing that is precious to you.

Skilful yet sly, Gollum comes with a bit of a split personality and so as you leap, sneak, climb and wander your way through Middle-earth, you’ll need to try and understand the darker side of Gollum, or attempt to trust the kinder gentler hint of Sméagol.

We’ll be sure to remind you when that May 25th release date comes around and you get the chance to play The Lord of the Rings: Gollum on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. For now though, there’s a trailer you just HAVE to take in. Give it a watch and let us know in the comments what you think. Has the four year wait been worth it?

And if you want to know more, check out fresh gameplay from Middle-earth, with insights from the developers inspired by the iconic lore as Daedalic and Nacon look to stream a special showcase at 5.30pm GMT / 6.30pm CET on Twitch today.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
