We’re not short of Lovecraftian tales on Xbox, but decades on from their glory years, there aren’t many text-based adventures present. That changes today as The Innsmouth Case begins to unfold on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with full Xbox Play Anywhere support too.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, The Innsmouth Case combines horror, comedy and good old text adventuring as one, taking players off on a journey that promises to be harrowing, humorous and utterly fantastical.

The Innsmouth Case previously released on Nintendo Switch, PC and mobile, but now makes a move to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S to deliver an adventure in which every single decision you make counts – whether that be for the good of the tale and the opportunity for you to solve the case, or as you fail miserably.

It tells the tale of the disappearance of one Tabitha Marsh from the town of Innsmouth. It’s here where you and your detective skills come to the fore, becoming one with the world around you, working your way through the interactive book styled gameplay and preparing yourself to take in the 27 eventual – and possible – endings. With more than 20 folk to spend time chatting to, as you try to get a grip on the mystery of Tabitha, it’ll be your decision making which is key throughout.

The key features sit as follows…

  • Become part of a stirring story in the Lovecraft universe, where every decision you make has a lasting effect on the story.
  • This interactive book will captivate you with its perfect blend of offbeat humor and classic horror.
  • What fate awaits you in Innsmouth is entirely in your hands; a total of 27 possible endings want to be discovered. Are you saving the day – or are your days numbered?
  • Explore 21st century Innsmouth, talk to over 30 animated characters and solve the mystery of the disappearance of little Tabitha Marsh.

Should you be up for heading to the fishing village of Innsmouth and are ready to take in some detective work that has been inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, get yourself over to the Xbox Store right now. You’ll find The Innsmouth Case available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for a price of £12.49 and with the power of Xbox Play Anywhere, you’ll be able to do just that too. You’ll also find the game present on PS4.

Keep an eye out for a review from us soon too.

Game Description:

The Innsmouth Case is a text adventure game inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and the very first text-based adventure to combine horror and comedy in a fit and proper way. A desperate mother, a missing girl and a mystical place – a case could hardly be more challenging. To solve the enigmatic disappearance of little Tabitha Marsh, however, the toughest and cleverest detective of all is wanted… but he does not have the time – and so the job goes to you. This mysterious assignment takes you to the remote fishing village of Innsmouth, where nothing is what it seems… Save the girl, solve the case, survive Innsmouth! The Innsmouth Case is a detective adventure in the style of an interactive book inspired by the fantastical works of horror legend H.P. Lovecraft. The unique mixture of horror and humor makes The Innsmouth Case the first scary-comedy-text-adventure of its kind. A game in which every decision counts, and there is far more than one way to successfully solve the case … or fail miserably!

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
