Zen-like experiences are a great way to unwind after a stressful day whilst still playing video games. Recently, the likes of Lake and The Alto Collection have offered us just that. And today, we can add another game to that list as Downslope arrives on Xbox and PC.
Downslope is a snowboarding game but those who are coming expecting SSX or Steep will be in for a shock. Downslope is much more minimalistic in its approach. Each level is a different run, and you need to get to the bottom as quickly as possible, with as few bails as you can manage. There are three items to pick up on the way down if you want a flawless run, but there is something else far stranger to keep an eye out.
Those that have unfortunately perished on the mountain will be waiting for you with some less than encouraging words. They don’t want you on their mountain and will go out of their way to get rid of you too.
Whilst you can only show these ghosts who’s boss in single player, Downslope allows up to four players to race against each other in local multiplayer. This may go against the calming gameplay, but once you’ve finished competing you can hit the in-game jukebox and chill out to the lo-fi soundtrack.
If the ghosts let us go, we should have a review coming very soon.
If you don’t want to wait that long, Downslope is available to download now priced at £4.19 in the Xbox Store. Featuring a variety of different environments to slope down, dare you conquer this mountain and all the undead inhabitants too? Let us know in the comments below.
Game description
The Mountain awaits. Snowboard your way down the dizzying Descent! Face complex, tricky courses as you make your way further and further down the Mountain’s slopes. Meet the ghosts of those who have braved its slopes before you. And maybe – just maybe – you can reach the End. Are you fast enough? Are you skilled enough? There’s only one way to find out.
