The Necromancers Tale – out now on console

Most RPGs cast players as heroes destined to save the world. The Necromancer’s Tale takes a rather different approach.

Launching today on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, this award-winning gothic RPG invites players to embrace the darker side of power, delving into forbidden rituals, raising the dead and navigating a web of political intrigue where every conversation could have deadly consequences.

Already earning recognition for its storytelling and world-building, The Necromancer’s Tale now makes the jump to consoles, bringing its sprawling narrative and sinister atmosphere to a whole new audience.

A Noble’s Descent Into Darkness

Set in an alternative-history kingdom near Venice and the Adriatic Sea in 1733, The Necromancer’s Tale places players in the role of an aristocrat whose life takes a dangerous turn after discovering an ancient book of necromantic rituals.

What follows is a journey through a world caught between science and superstition, where diplomacy, deception and social standing can be just as important as any spell or sword.

As your knowledge of the dark arts grows, so too does the risk. Perform forbidden rituals, raise undead servants and build your influence in secret, all while trying to avoid suspicion from the townsfolk. Push too far and you may find yourself facing trial, imprisonment or even execution.

And developer Psychic Software has crafted more than 400,000 words of hand-written dialogue, lore and branching storylines, supported by over 180 unique NPCs. Every major decision can influence how characters perceive you, thanks to a Trust system that constantly tracks your standing within society. This means success isn’t simply about becoming the most powerful necromancer in the land. It is also about managing relationships, protecting your reputation and deciding who to manipulate, blackmail, charm or deceive along the way.

Raising The Dead And Going To War

While storytelling sits at the heart of the experience, there is plenty of strategy involved too.

Players will command undead minions and allies in tactical turn-based battles, making use of weapons, rituals and dark magic to overcome both human and supernatural enemies. For those more interested in the narrative side of things, automatic combat resolution is also available.

Outside of battle, exploration plays a significant role as players uncover secrets throughout a world inspired by 18th-century Europe, filled with political rivalries, hidden societies and supernatural mysteries.

Every Choice Has Consequences

There is no shortage of RPGs promising meaningful decisions, but The Necromancer’s Tale seems determined to build its entire experience around that idea.

Whether you’re cultivating allies among the aristocracy, secretly expanding an undead army or simply trying to avoid attracting the attention of an angry mob, every decision appears capable of shaping the story in unexpected ways.

For players who enjoy narrative-heavy RPGs packed with intrigue, difficult choices and a healthy dose of gothic horror, The Necromancer’s Tale may be one of the more intriguing arrivals of the summer. Find it on the usual digital storefronts right now, like that of the Xbox Store.
