The newly revamped Xbox Games With Gold scheme disappoints for October 2022

When we heard that the last ever Xbox 360 title to be given away through Games With Gold would be that of September’s Portal 2, we expected future Games With Gold giveaways to change somewhat. We hoped for the better. Yet October 2022’s freebies are anything but. 

Don’t get us wrong, any free games are appreciated this end and with Xbox Games With Gold October 2022’s free games, there are a couple of titles that shouldn’t be sniffed at. But it’s just that. A couple.

Going from four freebies per month, available for all Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players who have a valid Xbox Live Gold membership to hand, down to just the two, proves once and for all that Games With Gold is right at the back of the mind of anyone at Microsoft HQ. 

You can’t blame them. Game Pass is the focus going forward and there’s absolutely no complaints there. It’s just that with the move to two freebies per month, it really does feel like it may be best to just knock the scheme on the head for good, and pile everything into Game Pass once and for all. 

Slight disappointment over, the games coming in October 2022, for free to all Xbox players, are probably more than worthy of a shot. You see, we’ve got the following arriving…

• Windbound – October 1st – 31st
• Bomber Crew Deluxe Edition – October 16th – November 15th

And that’s your lot for this month – two games, stripped of their usual prices for four weeks at a time, before November decides to pop up and – no doubt – deliver us another couple.
