The non-visual, audio-focused A Western Drama rocks up on Xbox

If you’re one of those who think that visuals are everything, then you’d probably be best to walk away from A Western Drama on Xbox right now. For this is a tale that focuses on the audio – nothing more, nothing less.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, A Western Drama covers the same kind of angle as that other audio-only title, The Vale: Shadow of the Crown, to attempt to immerse players into the world it brings, without the help of any visual cues.

Priced at £14.99 with a little launch discount in place should you jump in early, A Western Drama comes about from the TriBit Studio, IV Productions and Audiogames teams to tell a tale about, well, a Western drama.

Set on the edge of the American frontier, whisking us back to the 19th century, A Western Drama focuses most efforts on a couple of bounty hunters – Wade and Drake. It’s here where you’ll come in, taking charge as you face off against thieves and robbers, mercenaries and cutthroat gangs, enjoying shootouts, duels and utter nightmares.

The world of Wade and Drake sound to be a cracking one, and that’s a bit of luck as A Western Drama is fully focused on that audio and how things play out. Doing away with any need for visuals, it instead provides players with a full 3D audio world, one that you’d expect to find playing out through all those old-school spaghetti western films.

After the relative success of The Vale, there’s obviously room for more of these audio-only adventures on Xbox, and for that reason alone we’re excited to find A Western Drama on Xbox.

We’ll be sure to pump out a review very soon. For now though, grab a download for yourself by visiting the Xbox Store

Game Description:

A Western Drama is an arcade audiogame with a deep story set in the American frontier of the nineteenth century, starring two bounty hunters, the young Wade and his master Drake. As Wade, the player will have to face caravan thieves, robbers, cutthroats, mercenaries in violent shootouts and fast duels, trying to capture the four most dangerous criminals in the West and get to the heart of Wade’s recurring nightmares. Binaural audio allows players to live in a realistic world, without using any visual feedback. Through binaural audio, the player is immersed in a three dimensional audio world, that we have designed following the typical atmospheres of spaghetti western stories, full of characters, small outposts, dirt roads and cities.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
