It’s been a couple of years since gamers were first given the chance to explore the harsh Slavic wilderness of Yaga. Today though the lands are expanding as the Roots of Evil DLC arrives on console.
Previously only available on PC, Yaga’s Roots of Evil DLC now gives console players the chance to enjoy a new biome, to take in new creatures, to go up against new bosses and to try and get some kind of understanding of some new folklore figures.
Yaga is a humorous action role-player that comes from the Versus Evil and Breadcrumbs Interactive teams, allowing players to follow the life and times of Ivan; a one-handed blacksmith who is, perhaps, the unluckiest guy in the whole land.
If you’ve not played the original game – why not? it’s been out since 2019! – then you would have missed out on something pretty decent. Our full review talked of a game that delivered a charming little story, one full of hilarity, upgrades and blessings. It also spoke of some slightly repetitive environments and the need to backtrack, but we’re hoping that the introduction of Roots of Evil can go some way to fixing that.
For £8.39, we’re also expecting Roots of Evil to provide some serious content, adding to that base game in delightful ways.
Should you decide to splash out then you’ll find the Corrupted Forest awaiting your every move, as will the folklore figures of Kuma Lisa the trickster fox, the Trinket Kid, and Gigi the Loan Shark. Further to that will be new crafting opportunities for Ivan to make the most of, a new Pickaxe, a couple of new metals and further enhancements.
“We’re excited to invite console players to explore the new challenging chapter to Ivan’s story. ‘Roots of Evil’ adds to the darkly twisted and hilarious narrative of the game with quests filled with adventure and choices, as well as a quirky cast of new characters to discover, embrace or keep at arm’s length.” Said Catalin Zima Zegreanu, Game Director at Breadcrumbs Interactive.
There’s more though and alongside the Roots of Evil paid DLC are some additional monsters – namely the Spider Mother and Spiderlings – as well as some balancing and improvements to the combat and exploration.
You’ll find Yaga’s Roots of Evil on the store of your choice right about now. It’s the Xbox Store with which we’ll pay our cash, but this is on PlayStation and Switch too. Oh, and PC of course.
DLC Description:
Oakvale – a village under siege by corrupted beasts. The fleeing refugees suspect Leshy, the forest spirit, and wish to have him destroyed. The Woodsman thinks otherwise and comes to our hero, pleading for a more peaceful way. Will Ivan bow to the anger of the people, listen to the Woodsman’s plea or decide Leshy’s fate all on his own? Find out if he’s strong enough to defeat the festering corruption, while also crossing paths with vibrant characters such as the fabled Kuma Lisa, the Trinket Kid and Gigi the Loan Shark inside sidequests of their own.
