Prepare yourself as you suit up and enter the fray of Blackwind, with Blowfish Studios and Drakkar Dev confirming that the sci-fi action platformer will arrive on Xbox, Switch, PlayStation and PC at the back-end of 2021.

Featuring melee strikes, ranged fire and special attacks, Blackwind will drop onto Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch in Q4 2021 as it looks to introduce players to an unlikely pair of heroes – one James Hawkins and Blackwind, his Battle Frame mecha suit’s sentient AI.

It places focus on a human mining colony on the planet Medusa-42, a planet which is battling an invasion by fearsome aliens known as the Raknos. It’s here where James and Blackwind come together as one , determined to push back the Raknos, save the colony, and find James’ father. The problem is, this is a battle unlike anything Medusa-42 has seen before – and he’s had absolutely no training in how to deal with such a situation.

Suiting up and charging into the fray, you, James and Blackwind will be found utilizing melee strikes, ranged fire, and powerful special attacks to cut through the alien insectoids. You’ll help grow Hawkins from a rookie to a seasoned warrior, upgrading the Battle Frame’s skills across three branching paths, turning the suit into a death machine by performing energy blade slashes before dashing away from danger and launching missiles at incoming enemies, or use special powers to finish off any stragglers.

You’ll also have a trusty drone available to access areas much too small for the Battle Frame’s imposing frame to reach, and you’ll need to use it too as you follow James’ journey across the planet, progressing through a variety of imaginative sci-fi locations – sand-swept deserts, snowy mountains, dense forests, and secret scientific research facilities.

As you join the campaign and understand what Hawkins and the AI have to hand, you’ll be left to defeat the Raknos threat and solve the mystery behind their assault. And the best thing about it? You’ll either be able to go it alone or team up with a friend in local co-op where one player controls the Battle Frame while the other attacks using the Battle Frame’s agile drone to deal damage. Select from Easy, Medium, and Hard difficulty settings for a rewarding experience that’s action-packed and full of alien blood.

“Blackwind is a beautiful and violent send-up to sci-fi classics that has something for everyone,” said Manlio Greco, Designer, Drakkar Dev. “We hope you’ll join the fight and defeat the Raknos menace when Blackwind arrives on consoles and PC later this year.”

Blackwind will be available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and both PC and Mac via Steam, GOG and the Mac App Store in Q4 2021. For now, hit up the trailer below and let us know if this is one you’ll be keeping an eye on.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
