The shooty slashy Ampersat arrives on Xbox

How much can you throw into a game? Ampersat tries a ton of ideas and we’re just hoping that some stick.

Available to purchase, download and most certainly enjoy is Ampersat on Xbox. This one is playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, with full Smart Delivery and Series X|S Optimisation ensuring that no matter what Xbox you play on, you’ll be finding the most optimum version possible. It all makes the £8.99 that Check Mate Publishing have chucked on it, all the more worthy.

Pay up the cash and drop in and you’ll discover that there is a lot going on in Ampersat. There’s the shooty, slashy elements that will let you get up close and personal with a host of foes, but then that all merges with Gauntlet ideas, Smash TV loves, Zelda influences, roguelike risks and more.

Considering that Ampersat is entirely hand-crafted and capable of sending you off on an adventure into the unknown, it feels pretty impressive. Granted, you may just find this as a top-down adventure in which battling monsters, discovering secrets and grabbing loot is all front and centre, but is there anything wrong with that?

If you fancy turning yourself into a warrior mage and are up for a fight, get yourself pointing to the Xbox Store and download a copy of Ampersat on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S right now. Ampersat has also been on Steam for a year or so – the few reviews over there are pretty positive.

We’ll be back with a review ourselves soon.

Game Description:

Ampersat is a shooty, slashy, RPG-y game mixing old-school/retro and modern sensibilities. A blend of influences from Gauntlet and Smash TV to Zelda and a dash of Angband, this is a handcrafted adventure with much appeal to fans of Roguelites. A labor of love from a solo developer, Ampersat distills some favorite childhood gaming experiences into a fresh, fun hybrid that sees you killing a lot of monsters, finding a lot of loot, freeing captured letters (um, what?) and growing from a world-weary warrior mage into a powerful smashing/blasting machine!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
