Adventure of Samsara

The spirit of the very first adventure game, the iconic Atari 2600 classic Adventure, has been reimagined for a new generation in a mysterious and psychedelic new Metroidvania – Adventure of Samsara.

We see Adventure of Samsara launching today across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. This new title from developer Ilex Games and the legendary Atari is available right now for £16.74.

A Psychedelic, Interdimensional Journey

Prepare to battle through a series of diverse, interconnected biomes and confront brutal mutant bosses in a game that combines classic gameplay with a heady, twisting narrative of death, rebirth, and memory.

In Adventure of Samsara, you will take control of the Solar Champion, a long-dead Plutonian who has been resurrected by the primordial light of the Sun. You are tasked with reactivating a mysterious interdimensional fortress to restore balance to the entire multiverse, embarking on a psychedelic journey to stop a powerful force from destroying the world.

Classic Feel, Modern Depth

This is a game built for exploration, curiosity, and hidden secrets. You will journey through 10 unique and interconnected biomes, from frozen wastes to industrial labs, each filled with distinct enemies, hazards, and hidden upgrades.

As you battle through the world and confront brutal mutant bosses, you will unlock new abilities and enhancements, each revealing deeper layers of the game’s enigmatic, cosmic narrative.

Adventure of Samsara is not a remake or a sequel to the Atari 2600 classic, but instead a game that lives in its spiritual landscape. As you play, you are asked to search for subtle references and Easter Eggs to the very first adventure game, with familiar structures, enemies, and nods that will reward both new and returning players.

A Journey We’ve Been Following

We’ve been keenly anticipating this unique reimagining for a while now. It was earlier this year that we first got a glimpse of this beautiful adventure when we reported that Atari was reimagining a classic with Adventure of Samsara. Now, that day has finally arrived.

Key Features

  • A Spiritual Successor to a Classic: A Metroidvania action-adventure that reimagines the spirit of the original Atari 2600 Adventure.
  • Deep Metroidvania Exploration: Explore 10 unique and interconnected biomes, each filled with enemies, hazards, and hidden upgrades.
  • A Psychedelic, Interdimensional Narrative: A heady, twisting story of death, rebirth, and memory.
  • Classic Gameplay Feel: Evokes the timeless feel of games like the original Prince of Persia while offering something entirely new.
  • Deep Customisation: Collect items and load augments to enhance your abilities and skills.
  • Adventure Easter Eggs: Filled with nods and references to the very first adventure game.

A new quest has begun, but its roots are as old as adventure games themselves. If you’re a fan of deep Metroidvania exploration with a unique art style and a twisting narrative, Adventure of Samsara is waiting for you on the Xbox Store right now, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

You’ll also find Adventure of Samsara on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
