How minimal can you get with video game visuals? For many they’ll ignore anything that is not highly detailed with more depth than you could ever imagine. For others though it’ll be the simplicity which is key. If it’s the latter camp you fall into, Alveole could well be a dream.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch, Alveole from Sometimes You and the small development team behind it comes to console as a bit of an experimental affair.

It focuses on a restricted environment, leaving the player running in a ‘cage’. There is only one game mechanic too, but those behind it have pushed this to the utter limits in terms of the depth found. The question you must understand and answer is a simple one – how do you run, and why should you do it!?

Priced at a mere £4.19 from the Xbox Store, Alveole certainly isn’t going to be a game that will have you playing for days, weeks or months on end. In fact, we’d be highly surprised if you can get a couple of hours out of what has been imagined, but if you’re up for something a little different to the norm and are ready to full embrace the totally minimalist nature, then it’s got to be worth a shot.

If you’re unsure and don’t want to rip open the wallet to hunt down those pennies, keep an eye out for our full review of Alveole soon.

Game Description:

Alveole is a minimalistic puzzle where the player must understand how to run and why does he do it? Alveole is a short experimental project that explores the possibilities of the player in a restricted environment, where there is only one game mechanic, elevated to the absolute.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
