Green Soldiers Heroes Extreme Bikers
Green Soldiers Heroes Extreme Bikers – out on Xbox

Well, this is a surprise. A name we didn’t expect to see again has just ridden back onto the Xbox Store, but this time, it has completely switched gears.

Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers, a follow-up to one of the most poorly received games we’ve ever reviewed, has launched today. This new title from developer and publisher DERIK D.F is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC for ÂŁ4.99, and it comes with full Xbox Play Anywhere support.

Abandoning the shooter genre of its predecessor entirely, this new entry is an arcade motorcycle game inspired by the classics of the 90s. The big question is: is it any better?

A Series With a Lot to Prove

Let’s not beat around the bush here. Our history with the Green Soldiers Heroes name is not a good one. When we reviewed the first game, Green Soldiers Heroes, we gave it a scathing 1.5/5 score. We concluded:

Green Soldiers Heroes does all of this for you, whether you like it or not, leaving you to hold RT and watch as enemy life bars deplete… We weren’t really playing Green Soldiers Heroes. It was playing us. Don’t get suckered into thinking this is the next in the classic Army Men series. This isn’t fit to tie its boots.

With that in mind, Extreme Bikers has an incredibly low bar to clear to be an improvement, but a very high wall of skepticism to climb to win us over.

A New Direction on Two Wheels

Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers is a complete departure from the first game. This is an arcade motorcycle racer with low-poly graphics reminiscent of the 32-bit era of console gaming.

The game features two distinct modes. Challenge Mode is an addictive gameplay loop that challenges you to complete 30 different courses, racing to the next checkpoint before the time limit runs out. In Free Mode, you can ride freely through the city, racing at high speeds, jumping over ramps and buildings, and exploring every corner in search of hidden Money Packs to buy new bikes.

Your Ride, On Any Road

Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers is an Xbox Play Anywhere title. This fantastic feature means your arcade racing can continue, no matter which device you’re on. A single digital purchase on the Xbox Store for ÂŁ4.99 unlocks the game for you on both your Xbox console and your Windows PC.

All of your unlocked bikes and high scores are synced via the cloud, so you can seamlessly switch between platforms. You can try a new challenge on your PC, then jump over to your Xbox to explore the city in Free Mode without ever having to hit the brakes.

Key Features

  • A Complete Genre Shift: An arcade motorcycle game inspired by the classics of the 90s.
  • Challenge Mode: Complete 30 courses in a race against the clock.
  • Free Mode: Ride freely through a city, jumping over ramps and searching for collectibles.
  • Low-Poly, 32-Bit Era Graphics.
  • Xbox Play Anywhere Enabled.

A new race has begun, and a controversial series has been given a second chance in a completely new form. If you’re a fan of classic arcade racers and are morbidly curious to see if this new direction is a true improvement, Green Soldiers Heroes: Extreme Bikers is waiting for you on the Xbox Store right now.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
