Static Dread The Lighthouse
Static Dread The Lighthouse – out now on Xbox

What is it with lighthouses on Xbox all of a sudden?

It was only a few weeks ago we were peacefully guiding a lighthouse on a surreal, wordless journey in the 4.5/5-scored Keeper, an experience we called “as relaxing as gaming gets.

Well, wipe that serenity from your memory. A new lighthouse has been lit on the Xbox Store, and this one is a pure, sanity-draining nightmare – Static Dread: The Lighthouse.

Find it on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One for ÂŁ10.79.

Previously confined to PC, this horror title now brings its forsaken island to console players, tasking you with a simple job that spirals into a terrifying fight for survival.

The Lone Keeper

In the aftermath of a global cataclysm, the harbour authorities have reactivated an ancient lighthouse, hoping to keep the seas navigable. You are the lone keeper dispatched to this forsaken island. The fate of passing vessels and the nearby town rests in your hands, while far away, your wife and daughter wait for your return.

But this is a game of two halves: your job, and the horrors that try to stop you from doing it.

Your primary task is to be a lighthouse keeper. You will use your radio to guide ships safely into the harbour. You must protect the vessels entrusted to you and guide them through the growing, supernatural abyss.

However, then the survival horror kicks in. Each night, your duties grow more perilous. Mariners report encounters with creatures beyond the reach of science. Ships drift back from distant waters, completely empty, their crews vanished without a trace. We’re getting big DREDGE vibes…

In the local fishing village, the residents whisper prayers to sea gods and perform rituals to raise the dead. You are not just fighting the elements; you are fighting “something impossible,” and you must not let the shadows consume you.

Your Keeper’s Logbook

Here’s what you can expect from your time on this forsaken island:

  • A Tense Survival-Horror Experience: Play as a lone lighthouse keeper in a post-cataclysmic world.
  • Guide Ships to Safety: Use your radio and the beacon to guide vessels through the treacherous, monster-filled waters.
  • A Chilling Atmosphere: Uncover a dark mystery involving empty ships, vanished crews, and strange local rituals.
  • Preserve Your Sanity: Fight to protect those you love and stop yourself from being lost to the dark tides.
  • Acclaimed PC Horror Arrives: The celebrated indie hit now brings its terror to consoles.

The beacon is lit, but the shadows are gathering. If you’re a fan of atmospheric horror and are looking for a game that will test your nerves rather than your trigger finger, Static Dread: The Lighthouse is ready for your shift on the Xbox Store right now. Will you guide the ships to safety, or will the abyss consume you too?

Game Description

Play as a lighthouse keeper and guide ships safely into the harbor using your radio. Survive the presence of something impossible, and don’t let the shadows consume you!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
