Time-trial mode unveiled for Tour de France 2020

Competing in the Tour de France isn’t just about working as a domestique, or powering up the biggest French hills. Nope, it’s also about time trialling efforts and in Tour de France 2020 this has been reworked into something special.

Coming from NACON and Cyanide Studios on June 4th 2020, Tour de France 2020 wil deliver the best video game replication of the iconic Grand Tour yet – building on the likes of TDF 2019 – and alongside a new first person camera mode, and the opportunity to ride for any of the real-world teams available, there will be a new and improved TT mode.

Featuring an actual time-trial stage of the real Tour de France – a race that has been delayed until the end of summer – achieving a good time in a time-trial stage requires excellent stamina management. Cyanide have taken this into account and included it in Tour de France 2020 with the ability to adopt a time-trial position: with your forearms resting on the bar extensions, you reduce air resistance and gain speed without increasing effort, at the expense of control of the bike.

You can watch this play out in the video below – just make sure that when you are competing you take into account the tightest of turns, picking up speed by switching back to a classic stance and gaining a few hundredths of a second to take first place. In the new time-trial position you can also activate effort control, adjusting it correctly without overestimating your pace, otherwise you could end up exhausted too early.

And further to that, Tour de France 2020 lets you take an aerodynamic stance. Mostly useful while going down slopes, you’ll be able to rest a little and restore your stamina.

There are however plenty of other new inclusions in Tour de France 2020, with the following added:

  • Liège-Bastogne-Liège (“The Old Lady”) added, a 266km race of steep climbs
  • A redesigned interface that provides better anticipation of the course and position of competitors
  • A more realistic AI that grabs any attack opportunity
  • A first-person camera
  • All the teams of the Tour De France 2020 with their official jersey

Tour de France 2020 will be launching on Xbox One and PS4 come June 4th 2020. A PC edition will release a little later.
