ToeJam & Earl get Back in the Groove on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC come March 2019

-

Ready to jam out with ToeJam & Earl? The iconic duo will soon be back in the groove and today we get full details and a confirmed release date for the next manic adventure.

Back in June we told you initial details regarding the next ToeJam & Earl game. At the time plans were for it to release at the back end of 2018, but today we get more news, this time with a confirmed release date.

So, coming to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, ToeJam & Earl are threatening to funk up Earth on March 1st 2019, with the fourth entry in the beloved, funkadelic action roguelike series – Back in the Groove!

Created by HumaNature Studios, and helmed by original co-creator Greg Johnson, Back in the Groove! promises to put the fun back in to funky as the alien duo hit back as they hope to impress Latisha and Lewanda, by borrowing the Rapmaster Rocket. As you may well expect, things don’t go to plan and one black hole-related accident later, they are back on the floating remnants of Earth, scrambling to pick up the pieces of their ship before their home planet of Funkotron notices anything missing.

Back in the Groove! will include all the classic moments which made the series a staple of ‘90s gaming with modern improvements like online play, all wrapped up in a nostalgic underground comic style. Played out via procedurally generated stages, expect to find plenty of secrets, a host of weird and wonderful enemies and a ton of unlockables that will see you wanting to really push for the return home.

But it’s not just about the solo player with Back in the Groove! and up to four friends can play together through online multiplayer, choosing from nine different characters. Some of these will be proper blasts-from-the-past, whilst others will be funky fresh additions with their own stats and special abilities. Console players will also be able to enjoy couch co-op with two players total, while those on PC will enable local co-op accommodating four players.

Minigames will also be present to keep ToeJam and Earl on their toes. The side-scrolling HyperFunk Zone from Panic on Funkotron is back so players can earn extra presents and cash. Feeling the beat? Jump into a rhythm-based dance-off. Get ready to jam out with your homies to more than 30 groovy tunes, including classic remixes from the original games.

“ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! is what I’ve been wanting to do for the series for over 20 years,” said Greg Johnson, founder of HumaNature Studios. “We’ve included pretty much all of the original ‘old skool’ characters and presents, and we have a TRUCKLOAD of new surprises, many of them fan-inspired. I think we’ve captured the spirit of the original game, as well as a lot of what people loved about game two. I think this is what our fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait to see what they think!”

If you are excited to hear of the return of ToeJam & Earl with Back in the Groove! then you may also like to know that it’ll be available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (Latin America), and Brazilian Portuguese when it releases on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
