Tormented Souls delivers the chills and thrills of survival horror to Xbox Series X|S

Originally announced for Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC, and then seeing older gen versions dropped in favour of Series X|S and PS5, Torments Souls has finally arrived on the Xbox scene, providing gamers with the chance to relive some of the most classic survival horror – and finally the Xbox drop is here.

Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox Series X|S, with that following a recent launch on PS5 and PC, Tormented Souls from PQube, Dual Effect and Abstract Digital Works promises to deliver some classic old school survival horror, with gameplay inspired by those you would expect – Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

It’s priced at £16.99 from the Xbox Store (expect that to be roughly correct on other stores) and will see you placed in the town of Winterlake, as you join the lead, Caroline Walker, as she investigates the disappearance of a couple of twin girls.

As you’d expect from a game that focuses on the horror genre, what plays out promises to be a spine tingling affair, as you’re left to collect resources, build weapons, solve puzzles and head on down a disturbing path through the halls of an abandoned mansion-turned-hospital.

Sinister forces will be at play, medical atrocities will be viewed and the deeper you head into the mansion, the crazier things will get. In fact, absolutely nothing in Winterlake is as it should seem with reality itself on the verge of collapse.

The key features include:

  • Welcome to Winterlake – Lead to the small, isolated town of Winterlake, something terrible happens to Caroline Walker. Waking in the dead of night, naked and alone, hooked up to decrepit medical equipment, Caroline must fight for her life as she explores the halls of the abandoned mansion. As the previous inhabitants run amuck, you must scavenge essential resources and tools to decipher clues and create a variety of weapons to protect yourself from the darkness within.
  • Keep Your Wits About You – Nothing is quite as it seems in Winterlake. Cleverly combine items and scour your surroundings for clues as you face cryptic and unusual puzzles throughout the grounds of the mansion. Mirrors provide a gateway to another place and time – investigate even the seemingly mundane to discover ways to manipulate the very fabric of reality and seek your escape.
  • You are Never Alone in the Dark – The mansion may seem stark and abandoned, but the deeper you venture, the more overwhelming the horrors within become. From terrifying, wheelchair-bound atrocities to vile disembowelled crawlers prowling the halls, these tormented medical monsters aren’t the only threats that Caroline must face. There are also darker threats at play – quite literally. Early on, you are warned not to let the shadows embrace you…

If you’re in the market for a new survival horror experience and think that what has been created here and pushed out to market by PQube is of interest, you’ll find the downloads you need available from the usual digital stores – the Xbox Store being our call as that’s the one which will sort out Xbox Series X|S players, however if you’re an Xbox One gamer, you’ll be out of luck – this is seemingly next-gen only. You’ll also find the game delivering the scares on PS5 and PC.

Keep an eye out for a full review of how Tormented Souls plays out on Xbox from us soon.
