Trailmakers Pioneers – expanding on the original

Flashbulb Games is expanding its acclaimed vehicle-building sandbox, Trailmakers, with a massive 2.0 update titled Pioneers.

Originally released in 2019 after a period in Early Access, Trailmakers has captivated over five million players with its intuitive building tools, physics-driven gameplay, and open-world exploration.

Now, Trailmakers: Pioneers is available as a free update on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, injecting new life into the game with a story-driven campaign, survival gameplay, and a revamped building system.

And for those on Xbox, Trailmakers (including the Pioneers update) is also available through Game Pass.

A New Adventure on Planet Gregory

Pioneers introduces a story-based campaign mode set on the alien world of Planet Gregory. Players must help the friendly Froggit inhabitants defend their settlements against the evil BOTNAK robots. Complete missions, gather resources, and upgrade settlements as you explore this vibrant new world.

A new survival mode challenges players to build vehicles and navigate harsh environments while fending off threats. Scavenge for parts, craft essential components, and design vehicles that can withstand the challenges of this unforgiving world.

Building Beyond Limits

Trailmakers: Pioneers expands the game’s building system with new blocks, weapons, and a streamlined UI. Construct anything from simple survival vehicles to massive, complex machines, utilizing a physics-driven system that realistically simulates weight, environments, and terrain.

The Pioneers update introduces a vast new 7×7 km map, offering ample space for exploration, experimentation, and high-speed adventures. Build land, sea, and air vehicles to traverse the diverse landscapes and uncover the secrets of Planet Gregory.

Key Features of the Pioneers Update

  • Campaign Mode: Embark on a story-driven adventure to protect the Froggits.
  • Survival Mode: Build and survive in a challenging new environment.
  • Expanded Building System: Craft new blocks, weapons, and vehicles with a streamlined UI.
  • Vast Open World: Explore a massive new map filled with diverse landscapes.
  • Key Features of the Trailmakers Base Game:
  • Combat: Engage in vehicle battles against NPCs and other players.
  • Multiplayer: Team up with friends or compete against rivals in various modes.
  • Modular Building: Create a variety of vehicles with an intuitive block-building system.
  • Sandbox Playgrounds: Experiment and build in four massive open-world maps.
  • Steam Workshop: Share and explore player-created vehicles and mods.

A Sandbox for Creativity

Trailmakers has always been about empowering players to express their creativity and build unique vehicles. Pioneers expands upon this foundation, offering new challenges, environments, and tools to further ignite the imaginations of its players.

A Game Shaped by its Community

Our players have shaped Trailmakers since its release in 2018, constantly pushing the boundaries of creativity and making vehicles that amaze us at every turn,” said Flashbulb Games Co-Founder Ole Teglbjærg. “Pioneers expands the breadth of possibilities, deepens exploration, and challenges players to build and survive like never before. Pioneers is a major step forward, but the future of Trailmakers is even brighter. Player creativity has always been at the heart of our game, and their feedback continues to shape what’s next.

Build, Explore, and Survive

Trailmakers: Pioneers is a free update available now on Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox. The base game is also available on these platforms, including Xbox Game Pass, for £24.99. From there are a host of expanded options. Take a look at the likes of the Xbox Store and pick your poison.

And remember, with Xbox Play Anywhere support, you can purchase the game once and play it on both your Xbox console and Windows PC, with progress and achievements synced between platforms.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
