Train Sim World 5 MBTA Expansion

All aboard for a journey through the heart of Massachusetts with the MBTA Commuter line in Train Sim World 5.

Dovetail Games has released the first DLC route for Train Sim World 5, and it’s a doozy. The MBTA Commuter: Boston – Worcester line is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam, offering a realistic and immersive experience for railfans and train enthusiasts alike.

Experience Commuter Rail in the Bay State

Take control of the sleek HSP46 diesel locomotive and navigate the bustling Framingham/Worcester Line, transporting passengers through the scenic suburbs of Central Massachusetts.

Depart from Boston’s historic South Station, sharing tracks with the Northeast Corridor for a brief stretch before venturing out on your own.

New Features and Challenges

This DLC showcases some of the new features introduced in Train Sim World 5, including Conductor Mode (or Guard Mode), where you’ll take on the role of a conductor, checking tickets and managing door controls in both bi-level and single-level commuter coaches.

You’ll also get to master the complexities of in-cab signaling and experience a variety of train formations as you navigate the busy rail network.

A Connected Rail Network

For players who own the Boston – Providence route add-on, MBTA Commuter allows for seamless “Route Hopping” between both routes, creating a more interconnected and immersive experience.

You can even hop between routes to swap shifts and operate trains on different lines.

Authentic Scenery and Engaging Activities

The MBTA Commuter route features authentic scenery and meticulously recreated stations, including a glimpse of the iconic Fenway Park, America’s oldest baseball stadium. Engage in unique activities like transporting baseball fans to and from games, and discover hidden collectibles scattered throughout the route.

Players with other USA routes from the Train Sim World collection can also operate CSX freight trains between Framingham and Worcester, adding another layer of variety to the gameplay.

A Glimpse into the Future of Train Sim World 5

As we noted in our review of Train Sim World 5, this latest installment in the franchise sets the stage for a wealth of new content and features. The MBTA Commuter route is just the first of many planned DLCs, with upcoming expansions set to explore diverse locations like 1980s northwest England, suburban Wales, rural Japan, and the Netherlands.

Train Sim World 5: MBTA Commuter: Boston – Worcester Line route add-on is out now for £29.99/€35.99/$39.99. Head to the Xbox Store if you want to grab it for Xbox. And from there, climb into the cab, and experience the thrill of commuter rail in the heart of Massachusetts.
