The next departure is scheduled, and this time, the journey promises to be anything but routine. You guessed it – Train Sim World 6 is on the way this September.
Dovetail Games has officially announced Train Sim World 6, the next major instalment in its unrivalled railway simulation series. The game is set to launch for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on September 30th, 2025, earlier if you need some early access, with digital pre-orders opening today.
This year, players are being told to “Expect the Unexpected,” with the headline new feature being the introduction of toggleable random events and train faults, designed to ensure that no two services ever feel the same.
Another Year on the Rails
Dovetail Games continues its yearly journey of refining and expanding its premier simulation experience. We were big fans of the last entry, giving Train Sim World 5 a 4/5 score in our review. We called Dovetail “the masters of this genre” and praised how they “continue to improve the franchise with every step.“
Train Sim World 6 looks to continue that tradition of meaningful improvement by directly addressing some of the most requested features from the community, promising a more dynamic and immersive experience than ever before.
Expect the Unexpected: Random Events
The biggest new feature in Train Sim World 6 is the introduction of random events. This new, toggleable system is designed to add a layer of unpredictability to every journey. Players will need to stay alert to overcome a host of challenges, from sudden signal delays and temporary speed restrictions to unexpected train faults.
The game will guide you through resolving these events, testing your problem-solving skills and adding a new level of immersion to the life of a train operator.
New Routes, New Trains
As always, a new game brings a fantastic selection of new routes and locomotives from around the world.
- USA: Head to the east coast and take on the busy suburban network of NJ TRANSIT® in both ageing and modern traction.
- UK: Experience the thrill of coastal running along the Riviera Line, often described as one of the most beautiful stretches of railway in Britain. This route also marks the long-awaited return of the GWR brand to the series.
- Europe: Drive beyond the horizon between Dresden and Leipzig, a route packed with a full variety of freight, passenger, high-speed, and shunting services.
For the first time, brand-new trains will be available in the Deluxe Edition for all three core routes: the much-requested CrossCountry Voyager, the dual-power ALP-45 locomotive, and the hefty BR 294 shunter.

The team at Dovetail Games has made it clear that this year’s new features are a direct result of listening to their dedicated community.
“We’ve been keen to listen to players in our recent surveys and feedback to give them the features and content they’ve been asking for,” said Matt Peddlesden, Train Sim World 6’s Executive Producer. “Random events and audible announcements have been at the top of their list for some time, and we can’t wait for players to experience them in new routes and trains that they’ve also been requesting.”
The journey ahead is packed with new challenges and beautiful new scenery. With the introduction of game-changing random events and a fantastic lineup of new routes, Train Sim World 6 is set to be the most dynamic and immersive entry in the series yet.
