Attack at Dawn North Africa
Attack at Dawn North Africa – out now on Xbox

The sands of World War II’s North African theatre await your command.

Attack at Dawn: North Africa, a detailed strategy game from Panzer Division Games and Ocean Media, has launched. This deep wargaming experience is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for £20.99.

Prepare to plan your grand strategy, taking command of battalions, brigades, divisions, and even air wings in a campaign that stretches from the bay of Sirte in Libya to the crucial Suez Canal in Egypt. Whether you prefer the meticulous planning of turn-based play or the immediacy of real-time strategy, Attack At Dawn: North Africa has you covered.

The Desert War Awaits Your Command

This isn’t just a game; it’s an attempt to immerse you in one of the most intensive and nerve-wracking experiences of the Second World War. You’ll step into the boots of legendary commanders like Rommel or Montgomery, aiming to better the outcomes of real history or explore hypothetical scenarios.

The game features campaigns and scenarios meticulously designed after in-depth research of historical orders of battle and actual battle histories. Special attention has been given to the composition of the German-Italian Panzer Army and the British forces, the combat values of individual units, and the overall authenticity of each engagement.

The ultimate goal? Either the complete defeat of the Axis forces or the British loss of Egypt and retreat across the Suez Canal.

Tactics, Troops, and Treacherous Terrain

Success in Attack At Dawn: North Africa requires more than just brute force. You’ll need to:

  • Master Command & Control: Manage large-scale forces across a vast map spanning almost 2000 kilometers. The terrain itself is a challenge, varying between sea, desert, mountains, wadis, ports, the vital “Via Balbia” asphalt road, and treacherous desert tracks leading into the deep Sahara.
  • Choose Your Playstyle: Real-Time or Turn-Based: Uniquely, the game allows you to play in either real-time for a faster-paced experience or switch to a turn-based mode for more deliberate, thoughtful planning.
  • Navigate the Fog of War: The chaos and speed of mobile desert fighting are simulated, and the fog of war adds another layer of challenge, aiming to replicate the experience of being in a Panzer Corps command vehicle. You’ll need good situational awareness, aided by the ability to zoom out and see the entire battlefield at a glance, and choose between top-view unit models or traditional counters for clarity.

Authenticity & Accessibility from Ocean Media

Panzer Division Games and Ocean Media have focused on creating an authentic yet accessible wargaming experience. The game features a very detailed in-game manual to help players understand the rules, and the interface has been customised for a smooth console gameplay experience.

Ocean Media has been busy bringing a diverse range of titles to Xbox, from the relaxing puzzles of Solitaire Dreamscapes to other Collector’s Edition adventures. They’ve been pretty prolific in recent months in fact and Attack At Dawn: North Africa adds a serious, historically-grounded strategy game to their portfolio.
