Return To Okinawa With Kazuma Kiryu

Yakuza Kiwami 3 revisits one of the franchise’s most emotional chapters, rebuilding the original game with modern visuals, refined combat, and additional story content.

Players once again step into the shoes of Kazuma Kiryu, balancing a quieter life in Okinawa with the inevitable pull of the yakuza world. The remake promises to deliver reimagined environments across Okinawa and Tokyo, enhanced combat systems, additional story scenes and a host of expanded side activities.

For long-time fans, this continues the steady modernisation of the series’ earlier entries, much like the previous Kiwami releases.

We saw how effective that approach could be with earlier remakes. As we said in our review of Yakuza Kiwami, “once Kamurocho opens up fully, there is a very good Yakuza game within.” Meanwhile, Yakuza Kiwami 2 proved just how strong the remake formula could be, earning a 4.5/5 score and standing as one of the franchise’s standout entries.

Seeing as we’ve ranked the Yakuza games, that is some going.

Dark Ties – A Brand-New Story

Alongside Kiryu’s return comes something entirely new: Dark Ties, a standalone story focused on Yoshitaka Mine.

Once a successful entrepreneur, Mine’s descent into the yakuza world forms the emotional core of this companion experience. The story explores loss, loyalty, and identity through:

  • A character-driven narrative
  • Boxing-focused combat mechanics
  • Unique side activities
  • A deeper look at Mine’s motivations

This dual-release approach gives players both nostalgia and new storytelling in one package; something that should appeal to both returning fans and newcomers alike.

Editions And Extras

Two editions of Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties are available:

  • Standard Edition – ÂŁ54.99
  • Deluxe Edition – ÂŁ69.99
    • Legendary Outfit Pack
    • Legendary Lads & Gals Pack
    • Ryukyu Gal Gang Customization Pack
    • Flip Phone Customization Pack
    • Legendary BGM CD Set

There’s also a £15.99 Deluxe Upgrade available for those who start with the Standard Edition but later want the extra content.

Continuing The Kiwami Legacy

The Kiwami series has become a cornerstone of the franchise’s modern resurgence, carefully rebuilding older entries while preserving their identity. With Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties, that effort continues – pairing nostalgia with fresh storytelling in a way only Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio tends to manage.

This release also follows the announcement coverage we ran back in 2025, where the two-in-one concept immediately stood out as one of the more intriguing directions for the series.

For fans of the Yakuza universe, this is another opportunity to revisit the past while discovering something entirely new.

A Tale Of Two Paths

Whether you’re returning to Kiryu’s story or exploring Mine’s journey for the first time, Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties delivers a compelling mix of remake and original narrative.

Two characters. Two perspectives. One shared destiny.

And as always with Yakuza, plenty of side stories, street fights, and emotional moments waiting in between.
