Ubisoft are no strangers to global travel, happily having dipped their toe in the Far Eastern waters with the release of the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles trilogy and the China edition back in 2015. Now though they are getting set to send us gamers back off on a little adventure with a collaboration with Aconyte Books seeing the publication of a new set of Assassin’s Creed novels that are set in China.

Aconyte Books are the fiction imprint of the global games group Asmodee, and it is they who have teams up with Ubisoft in order to publish a brand new set of novels, covering the Assassin’s Creed trilogy this summer.

Things will kick off with The Ming Storm, as the action-packed book trilogy is set in 16th century China. Our central character is Shao Jun, a young Assassin who previously starred as the main protagonist of the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China game. After the elimination of the Chinese Brotherhood by the rival Templars, Shao Jun must travel to Europe to train with the legendary Ezio Auditore, before she returns to exact revenge.

The novel will be written by bestselling Chinese author Yan Lei Sheng, and after previously seeing the novel published in his homeland and also France, with a Russian edition imminent, The Ming Storm will now also be published in the US and Canada on 1st June 2021 and on 8th July 2021 in the UK.

Available in both paperback and ebook formats, an audiobook version is expected to follow shortly after.

“When we started out this project specifically for the Chinese fans, we wanted to create something that would feel meaningful and engaging to them. We worked hard finding the author that would understand both our franchise, and how to tell a compelling story that would resonate with the audience,” said Aymar Azaizia, Transmedia and Business Development director at Ubisoft. “We are really proud to be able to bring this original trilogy to English readers worldwide through Aconyte. Although the content is not set in the continuity of the main storyline, you will find a great authentic Assassin’s Creed story. Enjoy the ride!”

With the Assassin’s Creed franchise having picked up a whole ton of gaming fans, with recent launches of Valhalla and Odyssey pushing the series on to new heights, there is certainly going to be a lot of interest in the new novels. Let us know in the comments if you’ll be one of those picking up a copy when it releases in the summer.

And if you haven’t yet played the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles games, there are both an India and Russia option available alongside the China edition – all are available from the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
