Ubisoft unveil Operation Steel Wave for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Year 5

Rainbow Six Siege Operation Steel Wave

It’s been over four years since release, but Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is still going strong with new content being regularly introduced. As such, Ubisoft have just announced details of Year 5’s second season, so let’s get stuck in to find out more about the upcoming Operation Steel Wave.

During a livestream today, Ubisoft revealed that Operation Steel Wave is set to bring two new Operators into the fray for the second season of Rainbow Six Siege Year 5, alongside an entirely reworked map and a multitude of gameplay changes. The Operators showcased are Ace and Melusi; a new Attacker and Defender from Norway and South Africa respectively.

But who exactly are these new incoming roster additions? Well, as a part of the Norwegian Home Guard, Ace acquired a heroic reputation. After being accepted into the Forsvarets Spesialkommando, on a joint UN operation in Somalia, Ace emerged by saving Kali’s life. The offer to join NIGHTHAVEN swiftly followed. What you’ll notice in the game is Ace being equipped with S.E.L.M.A., which is a throwable and stickable device that will stick to any vertical surface and slowly destroy up to 3 panels, one after the other. The S.E.L.M.A. gadget can also be thrown at almost any defensive gadget and destroy it with its arms or water explosive.

Meanwhile, Melusi signed up with the South African National Defence Force in order to broaden her skill-set and fund her field ranger training. After an ambush left her badly wounded, she resigned from the military and – as the heart of the Inkaba Task Force Anti-Poaching Unit – began training local women in tracking, interception, and surveillance instead. Melusi is equipped with Banshee deployable electronic gadgets. It applies a slowing effect to any attackers that are in a direct line of sight. The Banshee can also be used as an intel gadget as it produces an identifiable sound when an attacker comes within its range.

As well as two new Operators, you will be able to explore a re-imagined version of the House map, which has been newly reworked. This has lead to notable changes being made including some expansions to the basement area, attic, and office tower. Additional changes can be experienced throughout the map, all with the intent of evolving the overall gameplay. Other alterations for the update include the likes of a Unified MMR, Amaru Buff, Proximity Alarm and an Echo Elite set.

Will you be checking out Operation Steel Wave when it hits Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC? For now, stay tuned for an official release date!
