Uncanny Valley Preview

-

You know that feeling when you wake up and you think to yourself ‘Am I still dreaming?’ Or in your dream, you’re dreaming about having a dream and trying to wake up? Well if you do I think you might understand the experience of being in the world of Uncanny Valley.

Digerati Distribution and indie developer Cowardly Creations are welcoming you to their new survival horror game Uncanny Valley, a game which is set to launch on Xbox One come February 10th. You play as Tom, a newly employed security guard working the night shift at an abandoned strange facility in the middle of the city. Already troubled by disturbing dreams of ghostly figures chasing him, Tom’s life takes a turn for the worse when the offices, corridors, nooks and crannies of the facility reveal shocking secrets….

The game promises to introduce a rather intriguing tool called the consequence system. In a number of other titles, across all genres, formats, and years gone past, failure has always been greeted by death. Uncanny Valley however utilises a consequence system, which will impose lasting effects on the player. For example, a mistake that you make may result in a broken arm, which will then present problems when you have to load a gun – and believe me, you’ll want to load a gun occasionally. This changing dynamic makes you really have to think hard when making each and every decision or when approaching certain situations, while always maintaining a constant state of uneasiness.

To sit nicely alongside this consequence system are some great visuals and Uncanny Valley seems to thrive with its beautiful, melancholic pixel art, giving the game a strange dreamy feel from the beginning. With the distinct possibility of a dystopian soundtrack and cracking story included, it quite quickly ticks the boxes for all my gaming loves. The actual gameplay and how it all works is being kept under lock and key at the moment, but all will be revealed in our upcoming review. You’ll want to keep an eye out for that!

With the consequence system and numerous hidden secrets promised in game, Uncanny Valley hopes that you visit it multiple times to uncover all the endings, all the stories and all the mysteries on offer. I am one who is deeply looking forward to seeing what this game has in store.
