Vaewolf – revealed for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

Revenge stories are nothing new in gaming, but Vaewolf is putting a particularly supernatural spin on the formula.

Revealed during Gamescom’s Find Your Next Game Showcase, the newly announced hack-and-slash adventure will see players wield the powers of both a werewolf and a vampire as they hunt down those responsible for destroying their family.

Coming in early 2027, Vaewolf is being developed by UK studio Milky Tea and published by Megabit. Players will be able to unleash their vengeance on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support also confirmed.

Vaewolf At a Glance

  • New hack-and-slash action game revealed at Gamescom
  • Play as a hybrid werewolf-vampire known as the Vaewolf
  • Use shapeshifting, melee combat, archery and dark magic
  • Explore a reimagined ancient English north
  • Developed by Milky Tea and published by Megabit
  • Coming in early 2027 to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Switch 2 and PC

From Elf to Supernatural Predator

Vaewolf begins with a young elf survivor whose family has been slaughtered by a Viking clan. What follows is a journey of revenge, although this isn’t a story of a lone warrior simply picking up a sword and heading into battle.

Instead, players become the Vaewolf – a legendary hybrid creature able to draw upon several distinct forms and abilities. One moment you may be picking off enemies with an elven bow, before shifting into a werewolf to unleash brute force. Alternatively, the vampire side of the Vaewolf brings darker magical abilities into the fight.

The idea is to give players the freedom to adapt their approach as combat unfolds, moving fluidly between different powers and forms to become an increasingly formidable predator.

A Wild Journey Through the English North

The setting is another aspect of Vaewolf that helps it stand apart. The game takes players through a reimagined version of the ancient English north, drawing inspiration from locations including the Lake District.

Expect windswept mountains, lakes, caves and underground ruins as the Vaewolf tracks down its enemies. It all comes in a hand-drawn, graphic novel-inspired style, with heavy shadows, clean lines and Norse influences helping shape the game’s visual identity.

A New Game from the Team Behind Grit & Valor

Milky Tea will be a familiar name to some players, particularly those who have spent time with Grit & Valor – 1949, the studio’s debut game published under the Megabit label. The team is now taking on something considerably different with Vaewolf, leaning fully into fast-paced action and the fantasy of becoming an unstoppable supernatural force.

Megabit’s growing catalogue has also caught our attention very recently, with games such as Lou’s Lagoon, something that has just grabbed a big 4/5 score from us.

Vaewolf, though, looks to be heading in a much darker direction.

When Is Vaewolf Coming to Xbox and PlayStation?

Vaewolf is currently targeting an early 2027 release. When it launches, it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and Windows PC. Xbox Play Anywhere support will allow players to access the game across Xbox console and PC.

There’s still plenty of time before the hunt begins, but the combination of fluid shapeshifting, hack-and-slash combat and a graphic novel-inspired take on the ancient English north gives Vaewolf an identity of its own. Half-werewolf, half-vampire and driven entirely by revenge, this is one supernatural rampage we’ll be watching closely.
