Sam & Max are back – and this time it’s with a remastering of The Devil’s Playhouse.
Having first released way back in 2010 as an episodic game (remember when those were all the rage?), Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse was the final game for Telltale’s trilogy. In fact, it was one of the last traditional games to come out of the Telltale stable prior to them beginning to provide choice with The Walking Dead. But now Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse is back, remastered.Â
Head to The Devil’s Playhouse
With Sam & Max: Save the World and Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space having had similar reworkings, it feels about time for Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse. And that’s what we have now, with release on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.Â
But this third remaster from Skunkape Games, a small indie team that worked on the original, is also their most ambitious. This time around many of the game’s environments have been overhauled with more detail, content cut during the initial development has been restored, and a number of bugs that shipped in the original episodes have been fixed. And if there’s one thing we love, it’s bug-stomping.
What you can be sure of those is the usual Sam & Max goodness. That means exploration, it means the maddest of mad characters, it means testing puzzles and more – the weirder, the better for this daring duo.
Will that all work? Well, we’ll let you know in our full review of Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse on Xbox very soon.
Play now!
Until then, you can go and play the game for yourself. The usual digital stores will handle the download you need, providing you pay the cash required. For us Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S folk, it’s the Xbox Store that awaits and it’ll cost you £16.74.
Let us know where you pick this one up from though. You will be playing it, won’t you?
