Use logic to solve the tests found in Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku

Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku

We were getting worried. It’s been more than a month since the last ‘Puzzle by Nikoli W’ game arrived on Xbox shores and for a brief minute we thought the ideas had dried up. We were wrong as Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku releases on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Strangely, we have a bit of love for the Puzzle by Nikoli W titles. From the original Suduko release back in 2022, through Nurikabe, Slitherlink, Masyu and more, it’s a series that has delivered a new option every few weeks. Granted, they may seem similar on the surface, and we’re not sure any Puzzle by Nikoli W game has proven to be ‘fun’, but as a puzzle series that does what it says on the tin, it can’t be faulted.

We’re guessing that will be the case with the release of Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku too. Available to purchase and download right now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for a mere £3.99, this is a game that will take you through the initial throes of how to play Shikaku, until you are a master champion of the puzzle solving.

The idea is that you are given a grid, one that is divided up into rectangles and squares. On that grid are numbers, with those representing the size of your rectangle. We ‘think’ you just need to fill the grid – but we’re far from being experts in the field of Shikaku so will need to get hands-on for review in order to really nail down the mechanics.

Once we have worked our way through the tests on offer in Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku, we’ll be sure to deliver those review thoughts. If past series games are anything to go by though, this should be one for the evening, wiling away a few hours here and there as you get grid-filling.

If that’s a selling point, head over to the Xbox Store and grab a download of Puzzle by Nikoli W Shikaku for play on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S right now. Let us know how it goes by hitting up the comments.

Game Description:

“Shikaku” is one of Nikoli’s own original casse-tête, with simple rules and a unique feeling of solution. Until you get used to it, you’ll tend to solve the casse-tête with guesswork, but the real charm lies in solving them with logic. Once you master the method of solving the casse-tête by gradually stretching squares from the numbers, you’ll be able to enjoy “Shikaku” on an even deeper level.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
