Another Addictive Hit

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on the Xbox again, those pushers over at Poncle are on the hunt for new victims by updating Vampire Survivors.

I have spoken before about how this game is the retro gaming equivalent of crack cocaine: how once you start playing, it’s almost impossible to stop, and how the only way to not play the game is to uninstall it.

However, with the release of Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon, the eighth installment of DLC for the base game, I had no choice but to reinstall and play through. Run now! Save yourselves!

Still here? Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

A New Story And A Clan On The Hunt

So, the Vampire survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon DLC, eh, what can I say about this that I haven’t said before about the game? Well, there is a discrete story this time around, which I shall now relay to you here.

A long time ago, Saint ball’Thasar had a vision of a paradise, one lit by a big, red moon. He then founded the Order of the Red Moon, a cult to lead people to a state of everlasting life. One day, on a pilgrimage to seek paradise, the Saint never returned, and it was assumed that he had found what he was looking for. Of course, without their leader, the Order splintered into many fragments, and one of the worst of those splinter groups, Clan Bloodmoon, have decided to embark on a journey to follow in the footsteps of Ball’Thasar. Having received word of the location of the crumbling manor where the Order used to be, what else is a clan to do but explore it? What could possibly go wrong?

New Characters And Weapons For Less Than A Pound

With the narrative out of the way, I guess you’d like to know what you get for the steep asking price of this DLC, would you? And of course, by steep I mean by Poncle prices, as the entire DLC will set you back the princely sum of 89p in the UK Xbox store. Shocking, I know!

Create chaos

Anyway, Legacy of the Bloodmoon promises to bring not only a whole new stage, but also upwards of ten cursed new characters; it means that the list is quite an impressive one. Some standout additions include Malice Bloodmoon, the leader of the Clan and driven to find the ancient lair of the Order; and Calogero Bloodman, a beast of a warrior whose massive axe is simply hilarious to use. Other promised characters include Baal’Thasar himself, and another interesting character called Ashtart, a malevolent presence who is said to inhabit any old bones he can find. There are more to find, in the time-honored Vampire Survivors way of either finding them in coffins in the level, by evolving certain weapons, or just by sheer random luck!

In addition to the new characters, there are also a plethora of additional weapons to play with, from Malice’s Scarlet Needle and it’s evolution, through to the fearsome sounding Blacken Firmament, an ominous celestial body that darkens the earth and starts tearing reality apart. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any weirder, eh? Again, there are more than 16 new weapons, including the evolutions, and every single one I have used so far have been very good.

The Same Addictive Gameplay With Even More Chaos

Going very much on the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” theory, is the gameplay, which is again as simple and as addictive as it ever was. There is something so satisfying about taking a character who is weak and squishy for the first couple of levels and upgrading them into a screen clearing badass.

One of the new weapons, Incineration, is worthy of being singled out in this way: in its base form it erases a few enemies from existence, but when upgraded, it can clear an entire screenful at once, and this can be a life saver in the later levels. The Reaper isn’t affected by it, sadly…

Just. Download. It.

Legacy Of The Bloodmoon Is More Vampire Survivors Goodness

So, all in all, if you are trying to go cold turkey from Vampire Survivors, do not download Legacy of the Bloodmoon. For the rest of us, those who know they are addicted and don’t care as long as they can get that sweet Vampire Survivors hit, the addition of more content is extremely welcome. Just more, that’s all we want!

Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon adds a lot to the base game, and most importantly it keeps the magic ingredient front and centre. I have no hesitation in recommending this to any and all. In fact, I challenge you to find as much fun anywhere else in the world for less than a pound.
