Visit the Killer Chambers on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

There’s a rock-solid premise at the core of Killer Chambers: what if you took the confined spaces of an escape room, and then fired shedloads of bullets at the person in that escape room? Well, that person would probably die, and yes, they will die plenty of times in Killer Chambers. More importantly, they would probably dodge, jump and hide until the bullets ran out. There you have it: the essence of Killer Chambers. Killer Chambers is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S to join previous releases on Nintendo Switch and PC.

Killer Chambers is effectively a bullet-hell shoot ‘em-up mixed with a platformer, and there’s virtually no space to move (a claustro-shooter?). You will be memorising the order of bullets/spears/dynamite that explode around you, and then find the path through them that keeps you alive. If you manage to survive until the hourglass empties, then you will have completed the room and get to move on.

It’s so simple that you wonder why it hasn’t been made into a game until now. It certainly won’t be for everyone, as one look at the trailer shows that Killer Chambers is diamond-hard. Super Meatboy lovers will relish the chance to dance about these tiny arenas and dodge death for as long as possible.

There’s a story in there somewhere about a magic crown being stolen and you, The Brave Lord, retrieving it, but it’ll mostly be dressing. We are enjoying the Super Mario World-style level select screen, as you move around a map to choose your next challenge, and any game where progress is denoted by the hat you’re wearing gets a vote from us.

Features include:

  • Fast-paced and tough action-platformer with puzzle and bullet-hell elements.
  • Over 40 rooms, each one with 3 levels of difficulty.
  • 5 floors with unique traps and bosses.
  • More than 500 finely tuned trap patterns.
  • A funny story told by dialogues in a visual novel style.
  • Many items to help Brave Lord in his adventure.
  • 12 hats that grant you special powers, as long as they don’t fall from your head!

File this one in the masochistic drawer, then. You’ll know already whether you are up to the challenge although our upcoming review should be able to cement any feelings you have.

Killer Chambers is out now on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and starts at £7.49 from the Xbox Store. It’s also out Nintendo Switch and PC.

Game Description:

To get the King’s Crown and save the realm Brave Lord has to face the ghostly apparition of Lord Grave and break through the deadly rooms of the Royal Palace fiercely protected by countless trap mechanisms. Killer Chambers is an action-platformer/memory-game hybrid. You must survive in small rooms filled with traps until one turn of the hourglass. Beware, even if you’re hit only once you die! Can you hold out against an unforgiving bullet-hell in a narrow space? Nothing is left to chance, every trap pattern is made to be challenging yet fun to solve but quick reflexes alone will not be enough to survive. Arm yourself with masochistic persistence and good (muscle) memory, the King’s Crown awaits you!
